Lilburn is a city in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 34,354 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Lilburn is located on the eastern edge of the city limits and lies along the Chattahoochee River between I-285 and I-75. The first Europeans to visit what is now Lilburn were French traders in 1764. In 1802, General Andrew Jackson founded a military post here as Fort Jackson after his victory over General John Ross at Yellow Tavern Creek. The mountain town of Alpharetta began to grow around nearby Marietta about 1830 and attracted people from all over for its fertile soil and mild climate. When Alpharetta City was founded in 1885, it included both Alpharetta and Lilburns within its boundaries; however, they remain separate municipalities today. The two towns merged on July 1, 1907 when they became one municipality under the name of "Alpharetta". Lilburn has always been an important agricultural center due to its rich soils that are good for growing crops such as cotton, corn, soybeans, potatoes and tomatoes. Factory work relocated many small businesses away from downtown during World War II because production quotas were set by the government. However, since then there have been several new businesses opened up in downtown Lilburn that have helped economy rebound since then including restaurants such as Pritchett's BBQ & Bistro which reopened after being closed for four years due to arson; Dollar Cleaners which moved into their current location next door after being shuttered for three years; and Stonehenge Pizza which opened up across from Lowe's back in 2016 – giving residents more variety in their grocery shopping options outside of Walmart or home improvement stores like Home Depot or Ace Hardware!

Lilburn is a small town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. It was founded in 1835 and named for General John Lilburne, who had died in 1812. The population was 565 at the 2010 census. The first settler in what is now Lilburn was Ebenezer Cook, who arrived from North Carolina on December 5, 1835. Cook's family built a cabin on the current site of the community. A post office was established at Lilburn in 1840, and by 1849 it had grown to include a store and two homes. In 1865, Captain Samuel Prentice organized a wagon train that traveled through Georgia to Santa Fe with supplies for the Confederate army during the American Civil War. At Lilburn Depot along Interstate 85 (then called State Route 23), they stopped for lunch on January 15. After his wagon train left for Santa Fe with supplies that same day, Captain Prentice is documented as being "the first white person to set foot upon this present soil of Atlanta." In 1888 local resident Ethelberta Goodspeed donated land to make way for what would become Stegall Boulevard. Goodspeed's father had been kidnapped by Seminole Indians while hunting deer near present-day Lithonia and sold into slavery there before he could be Freedmen's Bureau freedman Ella Goodspeed bought him freedom in 1881. She renamed her home after her father's old home place - "Ebenezer Goodspeed Place" - and it remains one of Lilburn's most popular shopping destinations today. In 1903 Virgil Thomson purchased 1/2 acre (0 hectare) of property adjoining where Stegall Boulevard now stands from Mrs. Goodspeed as part of an effort to develop what would become Thomson Park; this parcel would later be known as Chattahoochee Hills subdivision within which Lilburn resides today
Lilburn was founded in 1792 by John Lilburn and his wife, Polly. The town was named in honor of General James Oglethorpe, who had commanded the British forces at the Battle of Savannah. The first settler in Lilburn was James Dance. In 1824, a post office was established at Lilburn and it remained in operation until 1907. In 1848, a school opened in Lilburn and it remains an active educational institution to this day. In 1865, the first railroad reached Lilburn and it continued to be serviced until 1966. In 1907, the Georgia Railroad Company built a new line from Athens to Lilburn and it continues to serve as its main artery today.
