Lilburn, Georgia is a small town in the southern part of Georgia. The population was 3,925 at the 2000 census. It is located about 25 miles south of Atlanta. Lilburn has been a center for gunsmithing and firearm manufacturing since the early 1800s. Firearms manufacturing began in Lilburn because of its location on the Chattahoochee River between what are now Alpharetta and Duluth, Minnesota. The first firearms made here were rifles strung with cord from Indian trails to be used against Native Americans. In 1811, Captain William Hargrave started what is thought to be the world's first firearms factory in Lilburn when he created a company to make pistols out of walnut wood. From this factory came firearms that have seen service all over the world including America's War of Independence (1812-14), Mexican-American War (1846-48), and World War I (1914-18). Today, there are several businesses that still produce firearms in Lilburn such as Bluegrass Gun Works and Brownells Arsenal Shop which focus on military surplus weapons and accessories as well as new firearms sales and repairs for gun enthusiasts of all levels of experience. The history of firearm production in this small town can be traced back to 1811 when Captain William Hargrave founded what is thought to be the world’s first Firearms Factory in Lilburn . Lilburn is a small town in Muskegon County, Michigan, United States. The population was 9,816 at the 2010 census. Lilburn is part of the Lansing–Muskegon Metropolitan Area. The first settler in what is now Lilburn was Samuel Davenport in 1814. He and his family moved to the area from Indiana. A schoolhouse and Methodist church were built in 1827. The first post office was established in 1829, and it operated until 1865. In 1830, John Crain settled on a farm near where Lilburn stands today. He named his property "Lilburn". In 1840, he married Anna Willinghams and they had four children: John (1841-1912), James (1843-1925), Alfred (1846-1921) and Clara (1848-1920). Anna died in childbirth during 1850; John took care of their six children until their mother's death two years later. James went off to study law at Washtenaw University while Alfred worked on the farm for most of his childhood. After three years of study, Alfred turned professional and started practice with his father before moving back home to help out with the farm during the summers when he couldnt attend college full time. It wasn't until after Anna's death that JOHN MARGINALDI decided to start a grocery store called J noilly's which would remain open for more than 100 years! In 1905 George Witherspoon opened a grocery store next door which would serve as independent business up until it closed its doors in 1984 because of competition from larger stores across town! This left an empty storefront for over 20 years before being vacated again by developers who rehabilitated it into housing units early this year! It has been vacant since then...but somebody always needs to go through with buying it so check out their website or Facebook page! Lilburn, Georgia is a small town in Hinds County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta-Fulton metropolitan area. Lilburn was founded in 1824 by John Brown and James Gadsden. The first store was built on what is now Orchard Road and it served as the primary trading post for over a decade before moving to its present location in 1851. In 1865, Lilburn became the site of the first state fair in Georgia when it was held there under Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest's command. The discovery of oil in nearby Pascagoula led to increased development around Lilburn beginning in the early 1920s with construction of two large industrial plants: Texaco Chemical Company (now known as ExxonMobil) and Chem Strip Resources Company (now known as Energy Transfer Partners). The growth brought many new residents and businesses to town, but also caused some environmental concerns such as water runoff from production sites which left behind an unsightly open pit mine that still remains today on Orchard Road. Despite these issues, Lilburn has remained an important community throughout its history. Today, Lilburn relies heavily on tourism and manufacturing jobs rather than traditional economic activities such as agriculture or retail trade however local officials continue to focus on preserving its Historic District which contains more than 50 buildings dating back to 1824 including several Federal Government buildings like the Court House and Mr. Fenton's Warehouse which are now used for private events only
