Lawrenceville, Georgia was once a small town on the Chattahoochee River. It was known for its lumber and cotton industries. The population peaked in the early 1920s at around 10,000 people. However, by the late 1920s, Lawrenceville had decreased to fewer than 5,000 people. The decline of these businesses led to a decrease in the demand for timber and other resources that helped support the local economy. This led to an increase in crime and an overall decline in community activity. In 1954, when Interstate 25 bypassed Lawrenceville, its residents lost access to many key economic opportunities. This caused a decrease in population and economic stability as well as increased crime rates. In 1992, after years of declined community activity and development, Lawrenceville regained some vitality with the opening of the Gwinnett County Jail. This has resulted in a resurgence of local businesses and cultural interest within the community again

Lawrenceville is a town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. It is the namesake of Lawrenceville School District. The population was 11,671 at the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1837 by Scots-Irish settlers from County Antrim, Northern Ireland. The first settler in Lawrenceville was John McNally and his wife Margaret McNally. They came overland on the Dobrudza wagon train from Canada in 1837. In 1838, they built a log cabin on what is now Snelling Avenue. They named their settlement after General James Knox Marshall who had fought against British forces during the Mexican War and who had become an American hero after helping to take Mexico City during that conflict. In 1840, two brothers named Alexander and George McNally arrived with their families. They also built a cabin near where Snelling Avenue now stands (now part of Ware Shoals). In 1845, three brothers named John Aiken McDowell, Edward Everett Henschel and Isaac Nunnock bought land around what is now Goodyear Street and erected some simple buildings which are still standing today: One on each side of Goodyear Street north of its junction with Old Town Road (now known as Highland Drive). These were called "Henschel's Store" and "Nunnock's Store." In 1847, two other Scots-Irish immigrants – Donald Macdonald and Hugh McAuley – arrived from Ballinrobe in County Tyrone by way of Mobile Bayou; they unloaded goods at Henschel's Store before setting out for home construction supplies they had ordered online from England but never received because postal service difficulties delayed their shipment until late winter or early spring. When they reached America they took up residence at McNally's Cabin down the street from where Henschel's Store later stood (the present day intersection of Goodyear Street and Highland Drive). From here they began selling produce door-to-door through local farmers until 1850 when mail delivery became available to them within town limits instead After Donald Macdonald experienced financial problems while attempting to open a store within town limits he moved his business adjacent toGoodyearStreetand sold groceries direct to residents rather than trucking them into town each time he sold something new It wasn't until 1870 that Lawrenceville proper emerged as a separate community when Andrew Carnegie donated money towards its erection as one block wide arterial road between State Route 2A (present day Slaughter Road) west of downtown Lawrenceville along good Year Street then extending northeasterly past present day Parkwood Avenue continuing eastick beyond present day Elmira Drive .
