Lawrenceville, Georgia is known for its optical industry. The city has been a center of production and marketing of Optical Products since the early 1800s. In 1862, when Lawrenceville was founded as a town by Welshmen, it had only one grocery store and two blacksmiths. By 1870, the town had 10 grocery stores and 20 blacksmith shops. These days, Lawrenceville's Optical Industry has become one of the largest in the Southeast. The first commercial use of lightbulbs in America took place in 1827 when Nicholas-Jacques Conte used mercury vapor lamps to illuminate a room at his home in New York City. This was the beginning of an era where mechanical devices were used to produce light instead of relying on human vision alone. In 1873, American physicist Nathaniel Hawthorne developed an instrument called an "optical telegraph," which allowed communication between people across long distances without having to rely on Morse code or other electrical signals. With this invention, photography became possible and motion pictures began becoming popular throughout America! In 1919, Edwin Armstrong invented what is now known as "the Armstrong lamp." This lamp was designed to passive infrared radiation which could be used to irradiate fabrics with visible light or ultraviolet light for printing purposes. This led to the development of photocopying and other photoelectronic technologies which continue today! During World War II, Lawrenceville produced more than 2 million items that were used in military uniforms! The Lawrenceville post office was established on March 15, 1814, and was discontinued on May 3, 1975. Henry Law died in Lawrenceville on July 12, 1861 aged 69 years. He had been a Congressman from Georgia from February 4th to August 16th of that year. His grandson Henry Law III served as Mayor of Lawrenceville from 1969 to 1971 and again from 1973 to 1977. Lawrenceville lies within the borders of the Cherokee Nation which has led to some tensions between the community and the tribe since its inception in 1823 when white settlers first arrived in what is now Fulton County. However, today there are no major issues between the community and Cherokee citizens living nearby or with any official tribal involvement in Lawrenceville's history or culture

Lawrenceville is a town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 5,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The town began as a small community on the banks of the Chattahoochee River. In 1868 it became the county seat of Fulton County and was named for General George Washington Lawrence, who had served in the American Civil War and been wounded at Bull Run. In 1881 Lawrenceville was renamed for Secretary of State James K. Polk because he had played an important role in creating and leading America's first presidential Administration. The town experienced rapid growth after World War II when thousands of soldiers returning from service brought their families here to live and work in what was then one of the most heavily industrialized areas in the country. As new industries emerged such as aluminum production and shipbuilding, many people left Lawrenceville for better-paying jobs elsewhere in Georgia or outside of America. Today, however, there are still several businesses active in downtown Lawrenceville including Spruce Tree Coffee Company, Stroud Glass Works Inc., Georgian Inn Bed & Breakfast Association (GIBBA), The Barnes Collection Museum (BCM) and Eastern Standard Insurance Company (ESIC). In addition to its many cultural attractions – includingthe Lawrenceville Arts District which features about 30 galleries and restaurants – LawrenceVILLE has become known for its annual Bluegrass Festival which takes place during April or May long before any other major festival throughout America occurs; this event includes concerts by top bluegrass artists as well as exhibits related to popular music from around Appalachia

The town declined during the 1850s and 1860s due to the economic decline of Fulton County. In 1870, Lawrenceville became an incorporated community with a population of around 5,000 people. During the late 1800s and early 1900s, Lawrenceville experienced significant growth as a result of its status as a bedroom community for Atlanta. In 1903, Lawrenceville voted to become an independent city under the leadership of Mayor Ira Swayne. The city remains an active cultural center today with several popular entertainment venues including the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Atlanta Ballet Theatre
