Lawrenceville is a city in Lawrence County, Georgia, United States. The population was 2,828 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Lawrenceville. Lawrenceville is one of the oldest settlements in Lawrence County and has been since 1825. The first settler in present-day Lawrenceville was John Barnhill, who arrived in 1825 from England. The town took its name from General George Washington when he visited the area during his 1799–1800 military campaign against the Creek Nation. Washington's army encampment lay just outside of what is now Lawrenceville onpresent-day Spring Street and Calhoun Avenue. At that time, early settlers were attracted to Alexandria Township because it had a good school system and rich natural resources nearby such as salt water springs and coal mines. In 1827, General James Wilkinson laid out a township square mile (1 km²) east of downtown (northwest of present day intersections with Court Road and Calhoun Avenue), called "Fayette", after James Fayette Butler, Ulysses S. Grant's secretary of war under Ulysses S., during their joint campaigns against Native Americans known as the Creek Nation in 1835-1839 In 1830, Isaac Brock built a home near the intersection of Spring Street and Northumberland Avenue which became known as Brock’s tavern or “Brock’s Choice” after him In 1837, Gouverneur Morris conveyed 2 lots west of where Spring Street meets Northumberland Avenue to Captain Archibald Macon for $225 each to form what would become known as Macon's tract including today's portion of Lawerenceville In 1840; David Crain laid out 1/4 lot on what would become current Day Drive (now McClain Lane) east side [of] Southside School which became known as "Crain’s Corner" next door to Store House No 4 on Old Indian Trail south side [of] courthouse square across from Drury Chapel later called "Church Hill". This location served as convenient transportation access for farmers coming into town from surrounding counties by wagon train . After about two years Mrs..Ann Blythe donated land north side [of] Courthouse Square between Highways 60 & 61 for public school purposes making this spot finally available for development that began soon after her donation

Lawrenceville is a small city in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 7,851 at the 2010 census. Lawrenceville is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. It is located on I-285 south of downtown Atlanta and on I-75 east of Gwinnett County. The town was founded by General Robert Ewell in 1814 as a post at that location to support his military campaign against the Creek people who had taken up arms against the United States government. The town was named for General Ewell's son, also called Robert Ewell, who died during an attack on Fort Moultrie after leading an unsuccessful resistance against American forces in 1778. In 1827, Lawrenceville became one of five townships formed from parts of Fulton and Gwinnett counties when Georgia became a state under the provisions of the Ulysses S. Grant Organic Act (1829). On February 6, 1830, Lawrenceville had its first election as a county seat with John Fenton elected as its first sheriff. In 1838–39 African Americans were admitted to local schools through legislation passed by then Governor Andrew Johnson; this policy was reversed by his successor John A. Macdonald before he resigned from office in 1865 effective January 1st due to charges of bribery and corruption related to his gubernatorial campaigns. In 1840–41 Lawrenceville erected a two story stone schoolhouse which still stands today inside what is now Mayor Philips' garage building on Central Avenue near US 40/I-285 just outside the city limits of Lawrenceville proper. On October 31st 1840 Mrs Sarah Greggs donated land adjacent to her home on Union Street within minutes after learning about plans for a school in that area – she would become known as "the mother" or "the granny" of modern education in Lawrenceville because she helped secure funding and built more than 50 schools across central Georgia between 1848 and 1895 including 10 high schools (10% black) until her death in 1907 at age 90 years old! This initial school building served as both primary and interim educational facilities until permanent buildings could be erected around 1850 following increased enrollment at nearby Lowell Institute which opened its doors in September 1800 with $5 per pupil from private donations supplemented with state appropriations made available for that purpose by Governor Macdonald himself! With only 4 female students attending school out of 291 pupils enrolled therein throughout grades K-12 during Grades 1-10 during 1849-50 there wasn't even close to enough space for any girls other than boarders living either side Of Waverly Creek where they attended services conducted each morning along with their male classmates Dismal Swamp School located downriver opposite Mr White & Dr Kelley's brick store next door which opened May 25th & served grades PreK thru 12th
