Lawrenceville is a city in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 26,567 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Lawrenceville was founded in 1851 as a trading post on the Chattahoochee River. The town grew rapidly and by 1907 had a population of 508. In 1945, Lawrenceville became an incorporated city and in 1957 it merged with Duluth to form the Duluth–Lawrenceville Micropolitan Statistical Area. The townsite that now makes up Lawrenceville was platted by Andrew Pickens in 1851 as a trading post on the Chattahoochee River for fur traders seeking passage to the Gulf of Mexico from what is now Alabama and Mississippi. After Pickens died, his son John Pickens developed the site into a small village named after him with help from his brother Jameson Peebles, who ran a ferry service over the river between Lawrenceville and Decatur. In 1857, when LawrenceVILLE merged with Duluth to form Duluth-LawrenceVILLE Micropolitan Statistical Area, it was one of only two micropolitan areas (the other being Athens-Clarke MSA) created in 1987 through consolidation of several smaller communities within Fulton County including Lawrenceville Township, Dalton Heights Township and Westwood Village municipalities which had all grown rapidly since becoming incorporated municipalities some 25 years earlier). At that time there were no major metro areas outside ofAtlantaalthough several smaller ones dotted throughout Georgia&Alabama&Oklahoma& Texas&New Mexico&Arizona etc.. The creation of micropolitan areas helped provide stability & certainty for economic development within specific Regions while enabling larger cities to expand their services without having to compete for residents & businesses who formerly lived within their respective boundaries.. By 2000 there were over 100 larger cities located in 34 states across America & Canada whose combined populations exceeded 200 million people – more than three times the size of Atlanta’s current total! Today still much remains unknown about how large these megacities actually are but given their rate of growth it’s reasonable to assume they will continue TO explode over coming decades… Alongside this continued growth comes increased demand for housing which has led to numerous new construction projects both inside & outside of our growing metropolises – giving rise to yet another key factor behind ATL’s continued success; its expanding economy!
