In 1835, Wilkinson named his son Colonel John Wilkinson after himself. In 1878, General Nathan Bedford Forrest moved his headquarters from Chattanooga to Lawrenceville and began leading Confederate forces against the Union army during the American Civil War. After the war ended, General Forrest returned to Lawrenceville and made it his home until he died there in 1923. Today, Lawrenceville remains a vibrant community with a rich history that has been influentially shaped by its residents and businesses. Some of the most prominent businesses include Coca-Cola Bottling Company (founded 1886), Pigeon Forge Tire & Rubber (established 1897), Falcon Funeral Home (established 1918), JAG Capital Partners LLC (founded 1995), and First Baptist Church of Lawrenciaville (founded 1865). Additionally, many colleges and universities have campuses in or near Lawrenceville including University; however these institutions currently do not have students living within town limits.

In 1827, a group of Scotsmen came to Lawrenceville and started a cotton plantation called « Enoch Pratt» on what today is Druid Hills Road. This plantation represented a major change for Lawrenceville: Prior to this time, most residents had been farmers or maidens who did not have access to education or transportation beyond their homes. The Scotsmen made considerable investments in their new enterprise, including building schools and infrastructure such as roads and bridges. They also established themselves as leaders within the community – one example being when they donated $5,000 towards construction of Stonington’s first church (the first Baptist church west of the Appalachian Mountains). The cotton plantations were eventually sold off or abandoned over time; but while some continue to be used today as residential areas by retirees or others looking for privacy (e.g., Druid Hills), most have reverted back to agricultural use since then! In 1913–14, however, when Atlanta Renaissance Center was built adjacent to Druid Hills Road near present day Philips Arena – just across from where Enoch Pratt once stood – law students from nearby Emory University decided thatLawrenceville should become its own city! And so it began! Since then Lawrenceville has experienced rapid growth both politically and economically: In 1951–52 it became part of newly created Fulton County; later that year it became part of Metro Atlanta; in 1967 it again became part of Fulton County; by 2000 it had reka
