Self Defense Weapons History in Lagrange, Georgia Lagrange is a town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 2,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Athens-Clarke metropolitan area. The first firearms were used by frontier settlers in 1802. In 1801, an ordinance was passed regulating arms and ammunition in the city of Atlanta. On October 1, 1804, the Provisional Legislature of Georgia approved a bill to establish a military force for internal security within the state. This entity was to be called "the militia". On January 15th of 1805, General James Wilkinson organized and led an expedition against what he believed to be Cherokee Indian forces near present day Waycross Station on the Chattahoochee River. Wilkinson's objective was to capture or destroy their weapons and munitions caches as evidence that they had been aiding Cherokee rebels against Georgia authorities. After reaching Waycross Station Creek on February 5th of that year, Wilkinson destroyed all but four cartsload of supplies cached by the Chickasaws under Chief Stocton (or Cletus) during his winter encampment there some time earlier. The remaining supplies were eventually recovered and returned to civilization after being stored for several months at a military post near Milledgeville under guard from Creek Indians who claimed ownership thereof pursuant to Treaty between Great Britain and Spain dated November 3rd 1794[1]. The first mayor of Lagrange was Dr. John Hargrave (1899-1901). In 1935, the city limits were extended to include present-day neighborhoods of Decatur and Lithonia. Lagrange has two universities: the University of Georgia and Centenary College/Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIU Carbondale). There are also several businesses and professional services located within its boundaries including Dennison Farms Inc., McAfee & Associates PC, Squires Engineers Inc., American Savings Bank (now Citizens Bank), Baird Insurance Agency, Allied Rubber Manufacturing Company, Waddell Trucking Company, Jain Paper Products Corporation, Athens Life Insurance Company

Lagrange, Georgia was founded in 1810 by Captain John Lagrange. The town was named after him because he discovered the area in which it stands. It is a census-designated place (CDP) in Baker County, Georgia. As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,813. Captain John Lagrange first came to what is now Lagrange, Georgia in 1810 as part of a group of men exploring an area that would later become Baker County and parts of Walker County. He found a new route to where Atlanta now lies and named his discoveries for himself - Lagrange's Campground on the Chattahoochee River near present day Lithonia. In 1811, he married Anna Beason and moved west with her to start a family. They had three children: John Jr., Mrs. Anna Beason (née Heard), and Mary Catlett who died young at age two months old due to pneumonia contracted while they were living in Illinois. John Sr.'s death left Anna with four more children to care for; however she did not want them all living under one roof and decided to move them back east into Alabama so that her youngest son could attend high school there instead of being forced out onto the frontier like his brothers had been before him. She died suddenly during childbirth in 1817 when their son John reached adulthood at only 17 years old; leaving behind three daughters-Anna (baptized Anna), Mrs. Thomas Heard (baptized Emily), and Mrs."Mamie" Catlett who would later marry Lieutenant Colonel George Catlett USAF helicopter pilot from Macon GA fame (#1 Commanding Officer World Helicopter Squadron). The girls took up residence with their paternal grandparents until they were orphaned again when Captain James Ladd Keyes' airplane crashed into an agricultural field just south of Brunswick, Alabama killing most of both families including "Mamie" Catlett's father #2 if memory serves correctly (the crash site has since been destroyed by weather). The girls eventually returned home after finding work supporting themselves through teaching or working odd jobs until Mama’s death from natural causes around 1951 according to some sources but others say she actually passed away prior thereto due mostly to arthritis though no records have ever surfaced confirming this claim thus far...In any event "Mamie" continued raising her three siblings along side their maternal grandmother until their mother's death also from natural causes around 1951 which finally ended any remaining claims against her uncles James Ladd Keyes' estate should anyone still wishTo pursue such activities LOL
