Lagrange is a town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,890 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Sandy Springs–Roswell–Gaithersburg, GA Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lagrange is located on the north bank of the Chattahoochee River and has a small army post on its rural outskirts. The townsite was first known to Europeans as "Natchez", named for Captain Nicholas de la Mothe Cadillac who explored it in 1785 while seeking passage to India. Lagrange Plantation was founded about 1800 by Nathaniel Lyon and his wife Jane Lyon (1763-1842), daughters of Colonel James Cooksey and Mary Young Cooksey (1759-1829). They were among the earliest Georgia landowners and acquired large tracts of land around what are now Lagrange and Roswell counties. The Lyon family lost their holdings during theWar for Independence but regained them during Reconstruction when taxes were raised to support freedmen .General James Vann Jones purchased Lyon's interest in 1865 from Nathaniel Lyon's widow Jane Lyon Beauregard; they continued to live there until their death in 1878 . A millrace running east-west connected with the Chattahoochee River near present day intersection of US 82nd Street and Old USHighway 20th Avenue ran through parts of what is now Lagrange before being diverted eastward around 1900 into what is now Roswell Creek; this stream formed part of a larger tributary that joined the Chattahoochee near present day Atlanta . In 1895 local developers John Waddell, Alfred McClendon,and others built a dam across Dry creek just below modern day intersection of US 82nd Street and Old USHighway 20th Avenue creating Lake Lanier which served as an impoundment for cotton plantations until drained by journalists Harry Emerson Fosdickand Edwin Latham starting in 1923; this event also created downtownAtlanta’s first deepwater harborfront development By 1945 much of downtown had been destroyed by bombing raids conducted by American Air Force bombers during World War II efforts to remove all buildings within five miles radius including most churches it seems little thought went into making sure there would be nothing living or working beneath those ruins other than birds .. today much like then downtownatlanta contains some evidence of past lives but also fresh architecture,. excavated remains found at locations such as West End Mall will help scholars understand African American history from early 19th century thru current days

Lagrange, Georgia was founded in 1802 by Captain James Lagrange and his wife. The town was named after him because of the long range he could shoot with his rifles. In 1814, Captain George Washington visited the area and is said to have remarked on the beauty of the countryside. He recommended that the town be renamed Alexandria but it wasn't until 1821 that it received its current name. At first, there were few residents in Lagrange because hunting and fishing were the mainstay of its economy. However, as development continued, more people moved into town and eventually it became a booming center for trade and commerce. The population reached 10,000 by 1830 and soon began to expanding rapidly throughout central Georgia. By 1870, Lagrange had become one of the largest towns in Andalusia County. It continued to grow until World War II when it all but disappeared due to bombing raids from Japan during that conflict.
