Robertson founded what would become Delta Air Lines Inc., with headquarters inAtlanta.Delta began flights between Atlanta and Savannah on October 3, 1948; it was the first commercial airline service between those two cities. In 1990, Delta merged with Northwest Airlines to form Delta Air Lines Inc., which remains headquartered at its original location today. The town's history can be traced back to when land was donated by Captain John Young (1798-1861) for a courthouse and schoolhouse site on what is now known as Old Fort Troup Road near present day Discovery Lane/Old High School Road intersection near Lagrange Elementary School
Lagrange was founded in 1801 by James Lagrange and his wife, Phoebe. The couple came from a prominent family of land owners in the Georgia Panhandle. In 1810, James Lagrange opened a store near what is now downtown Atlanta. He became an important businessman and political leader in the area during the antebellum period. After serving as a delegate to the Georgia state legislature from Fulton County, he served as Mayor of Atlanta from 1834 to 1840. In 1840, he won election as Governor of Georgia; he served two terms before dying at the age of 79 years old on October 14, 1850.
