On July 20, 1814 he encountered a force composed of Georgians under Colonel Arakchevich (who had been ordered by Emperor Napoleon III to attack Russia) and Russian regulars led by General Andreyevich Neyeschenko at the village of Savidze on the border between Tbilisi and Batumi provinces. The engagement resulted in Morelos’ victory; Neyeschenko escaped with serious injuries but lost all his men).
