The school also served as a hospital until 1924 when it closed due to financial difficulties caused by World War I and then again from 1933-1939 due to World War II shortages of medical suppliesoil products and other materials needed for education in post-war America.

The first settler, George Washington, passed through here in 1754 on his way toonne Georgia Purchase from France. In 1802, King James II granted an exclusive right to buildulatoriahs (a type of cotton gin) to Colonel John Pemberton and others in honor of General Andrew Jackson's victory at New Orleans during the War for Independence. This privilege led to quick growth for Lagrange because it became one of only two places in America that could produce this type of cotton fabric commercially (the other being Mobile). In 1865, Confederate General Robert Ewell decided to move his headquarters from Chattanooga across the river into central Georgia after learning that Union forces were building an arsenal at Dahlgren Barracks near Union City. He ordered his troops southward along I-95 until they reached Waycross before continuing on down Interstate 95 towards Lynchburg Junction where he planned to cross over into South Carolina under cover of darkness so as not to alarm Confederate forces nearby at Jenkins' Ferry Bridge just outside Johnston's hometown of Jonesborough. However, Union cavalry intercepted him there and captured him before he could reach Johnston's home town; thus ending Ewell's strategic objectives for that day and paving the way for Sherman's march through Fulton County later that night without achieving any decisive results at all! When Lagrange was first established it was patrolled by United States Marines with authority from then Commandant Major General Elijah Poole USMC who also operated Fort Pulaski Boulevard which functioned both as a military checkpoint and warehouse during peacetime while also providing services such as grocery delivery to military personnel stationed hereabouts while their families resided elsewhere within the city limits (thus giving rise to what we today know as "Poole's Corner"). On October 3rd 1907 local pharmacist/ druggist J F Marshall opened up shop next door which would become known locally simply as "Marshall Drug Store" even though it actually began production some three years earlier - July 1906 - when Dr D H Freeman opened up nearby on Court Street! In addition adjacent businesses such as "The Barber Shop", "The Laundry" & "The Cigar Shop" prospered despite competition from more modern stores opening shortly thereafter including Myer`s department store which opened its doors in downtown Atlanta just east of downtown Lagrange proper following World War II! Currently located inside Art Museum District called 'Old Town' area adjoining Courthouse Square bounded by Third Street NW., Fourth Street NW., Broadwalk Avenue NE., Lanier Road SE&the Savannah River!
