Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865, Kingsland remained under Union control until May 6th when it became parts of newly formed Cobb County. The post-war growth inKingsland has been associated with several key moments: 1)the establishment of Kennesaw State University in 1946; 2)the annexation by Cobb County in 1954; 3)the influx of commuter traffic into the city during its growth from 1960-1990; 4)the emergence as a center for medical technology development during the 1990s; 5)the role played by community organizations such as Baptist Church Fellowship International in creating urban infrastructure such as parks and libraries
