Kingsland is a small town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 2,526 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Kingsland was founded by Col. George Rogers Clark in 1804 as a log settlement on the Chattahoochee River. In 1835, Kingston and other settlements along the river were merged into Kingsland to form what would become Fulton County. The first settler in Kingsland was Col. George Rogers Clark who established a trading post there in 1804. He named his new settlement after himself, King's Landing in Scotland, where he had been born earlier that year. By 1835, all of the settlements along the Chattahoochee River were united into what would become Fulton County and Kingston became its capital. In 1870, John Kirby built a cotton gin on land donated by General Nathan Bedford Forrest and it became one of the first cotton gin operations in Georgia. The gin continued operation until 1925 when it closed due to financial difficulties. In 1922–24, Kingsland was home to an important exhibition of art called "Georgia Art". The exposition showcased many significant Georgian-era artists including Joice Hethorne and Alfred Stieglitz among others In 1936, during World War II, Kingsland served as an ammunition depot for General Electric Co.'s plants in southeast Georgia munitions production continues until today with some 1 million barrels being produced each month from GE Energy facilities located throughout south central Georgia

In 1944, Fort Benning War College began operations here and it remains one of the largest military academies in the United States today with nearly 4,000 students from across America studying at any given time. Fort Benning has also been home to many famous individuals including Thurgood Marshall who graduated from there before moving onto Federal courtrooms; Jimmy Carter who served as President here during his first term; and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Jr., who delivered his doctoral address here in 1968 before beginning his non-violent civil rights protests throughout southern America
Kingsland was founded by the Covington family in 1793. The first settler, James Covington, arrived in 1794. In 1801, Colonel John Wilkinson established a post office at Kingsland and named it after his father, Sir John Wilkinson. In 1813, the post office was moved to Milledgeville and then to its current location in 1827. The first store opened at Kingsland in 1828. The town grew rapidly thanks to its agricultural potential and population grew from 350 residents in 1830 to 3,000 by 1860. By 1870, Kingsland had a school and two churches. It became an independent city on July 1, 1898. In 1916, the United States bought Kingsland from the Covingtons for $10 million dollars as part of World War I efforts to keep Georgianeutral during the war effort; however, Kingston became an American military base until 1946 when it reverted back to Georgia control under the terms of the Treaty of Peace with Japan which ended World War II; since then it has been a primarily commercial community with few government services provided
