Kingsland is a small town in the east-central Georgia county of Cobb. The population was 1,677 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of Atlanta, near I-285 and U.S. Route 421. Kingsland's first gun protection history dates back to 1881 when a group of men from nearby Duluth, Minnesota, erected a fence around their farm to prevent penetration by game animals. The first guns used in Kingsland were shotguns purchased from local dealers and stock that had been brought over from Duluth after the American Civil War. Kingsland is located in the southeastern corner of Georgia. The town has a population of about 2,500 people and was founded by African Americans in 1847. It is one of the oldest black towns in Georgia. The town was first called West Point, but when white men moved into the area, they changed it to Kingsland because it was thought that the King of England would rule over them. The town originally consisted of only African Americans. In 1857, white men bought out all the African American residents and founded a white community called Acworth. At first, Kingsland functioned as a tiny farming village with just a few hundred residents. However, due to its location and strong ties to black Atlantans, Kingsland quickly became one of the most important black communities in Georgia. Kingsland consistently defied attempts by state officials to close it down or remove its African American residents from society. In 1862, local whites rioted after learning that blacks were teaching their children Native American customs on campus; however, nooses were not found at the scene and charges were never filed against any members of the community. This defiance towards authorities led to some level of self-confidence among many Black Atlantans living in Kingsland during this time period – something that was often lacking within larger metropolitan areas such as Atlanta or Savannah. It wasn’t until 1865 that laws were passed outlawing race mixing between races within specific geographic boundaries in Georgia – an event which rural King’slanders took advantage of by moving away from their longtime home for fear that they would be arrested if they returned later on.(Alston) This banishment also affected other parts of Georgia; for example White Acworth began to switch from being an overwhelmingly white community to becoming majority black starting in 1865.(Fowler) Despite these challenges though, many Black Atlantans continued living and working in KingsLAND well into the 20th century.(Doyle) These days, remnants of what once constituted “King’s Landing” can still be seen throughout central Gwinnett County including portions of Acworth Mills Shopping Center where donated artifacts related toights early history are still on display (Everett).
Kingsland is a city in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 24,715 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Fulton County and the home of most of its government buildings. Kingsland was founded by General James Wilkinson in 1801 as a small town on the western edge of what would become Fulton County. He named it after his father, King George III of England. The town grew rapidly thanks to cotton mills and railroad construction, but World War II destroyed much of the economy and growth until the early 1990s when new industries began to come online. In 2000, Kingsland became a city with a population over 25,000. Kingsland is located at (33.866667,-87.450000). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of , all land. As of the census[1] of 2010, there were 24,715 people living in Kingsland City proper (the incorporated portion including parts annexed from other municipalities), as well as 514 households out of which 36% had children under age 18 living with them, 54% were married couples living together, 10% had a female householder with no husband present, and 42% were non-families. 34% of all households were made up of individuals and 12% had someone working who did not own any property; their income ranged from $25,000 to $75,000.[2] The average household size was 2½ persons.[3]
