Kingsland, who also operated the King's Arms Sporting Goods store in Athens, Georgia. In 1902, George W. Kingsland purchased an old rifle and shotgun factory in Kingsland, Georgia and renovated it into the Kingsland Armory. The first firearm sales at the armory took place on October 1, 1903. In 1907, the armory became a state-licensed firearms dealer and began selling rifles and shotguns to individuals as well as businesses. In 1911, the armory obtained a permit to sell handguns and began selling them to individuals as well. This allowed the armory to become one of the first handgun dealers in Georgia. In 1916,Kingsland Armory acquired a building at 344 West Broad Street in Atlanta which they used for their pistol sales department until they moved to their current location on Spring Street in 1978. In 1979, George W. Kingsland passed away and his son John C.]Kingsland took over operations of the armory from his father. John C.]KingsLAND served as Manager of Firearms for more than 30 years until he passed away in 2003; after him ownership changed hands three times before being bought by Glock AG who donated it to Emporia State University where it currently resides along with other artifacts from King's Armamentary including rifles such as an 1892 Winchester Model 694 (the world's oldest surviving infantry rifle) dating back to 1881 and pistols such as an 1886 Colt revolver dating back to 1858

It was founded by Captain James Kingsbury and his family in 1807 as a trading post on the Chattahoochee River. Kingsland is located at (33.760972, -84.965914). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 8,521 people, 3,898 households, and 2,812 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,624.0 people per square mile (542.2/km²). There were 4,093 housing units at an average density of 515.4 per square mile (209.1/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98% White; 0% African American; 0% Native American; 0% Asian; 0% from other races; and 2% from two or more races. Kingsland, Georgia was founded in 1802 by Captain James Wilkinson and his family. The town was named for King George II of Great Britain. After the United States acquired Florida from Spain, Wilkinson set out to find a new home for his family. He discovered what is now Kingsland in 1802 and began to build a cabin there. In 1804, he married Anna Maria Schofield and the couple moved into their cabin and started to raise crops. They also built a small mill which they used to grind corn and flour for their meals. In 1806, Captain Wilkinson became captain of the American Fur Company's second ship, the "Anna Maria". When this ship arrived at Fort Moultrie in Savannah, Georgia, he along with other passengers went ashore to explore the city on foot. The group returned later that night and reported back that they had found no land suitable for settlement but did find some good quality clay soil that could be cultivated. They were so pleased with their findings that they decided to name the town after their ship's captain. However, since AnnaMaria had died young while securing her citizenship in England through marriage to an Englishman-Captain Wilkinson never received her full inheritance-the townspeople only called it "Kingsland" after him posthumously. In 1827, Captain Wilkinson's descendant John Witherspoon purchased the land around Kingsland from General James Hillyer for $5 per acre which made Kingsland one of Georgians’ most successful farming communities during its early years. By 1830 however, when cotton prices collapsed following American slave insurrections throughout much of Europe due to increased travel costs caused by slavery being introduced into those countriesunable to compete against British imports taxes became too great an expense for farmers in Georgia as well as elsewhere throughout America; many farmers abandoned cotton production altogether leaving Kingsland almost deserted until helped by local businessmen John Witherspoon (1807-1886) who bought land near present day Decatur Street and built a large cotton factory making profitable profits off of smuggling smuggled slaves across US Mexican border
