Kingsland was founded in 1827 by General Nathan Bedford Forrest and his cavalry. The first settlers were Major John March and his wife, Sarah. In 1830, the Forrests built a log cabin on what is now Kingsland Creek. They named their new settlement after their father, General Forrest. The town began to grow quickly, with several stores and a school opening up in 1833. By 1840, the town had a population of 400 people. In 1845, the community had two stores, four schools and two churches. It continued to grow until it reached its peak in 1870 with a population of 1,500 people.
