After the war, Kingsland continued to grow rapidly with its own government and school system. By 1870, it had a population of 10,000 and was the largest city in Confederate Georgia. However, during the Reconstruction period (1868-1871), Kingsland experienced increasing poverty and social unrest which led to its fall within a decade. Today, Kingsland is a small rural community with few residents remaining outside of its historical boundaries.
Kingsland is a small town in east Georgia, United States. The population was 1,362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta-Fulton metropolitan area. Kingsland was founded in 1795 by General James Wilkinson and his wife Eleanor Young as a post on the Chattahoochee River. Wilkinson named it for King George II of Great Britain after he successfully defended the frontier against Native American attacks. In 1802, Wilkinson sold Kingsland to John A. Maclay and others for $2,000. The town grew rapidly with the arrival of settlers from Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee over the next few years. By 1811, Kingsland had a school, storehouse, blacksmith shop, Methodist chapel and about fifty residents. In 1815–16 General Andrew Jackson led an attack against Indian forces in what is now known as Battle of Kingsland Creek Bridge. After suffering heavy casualties Jackson ordered his Brigadier General John Hindman to retreat and burn down Maclay's stores before retiring back home to safety with his retinue behind him. Hindman's actions are still debated by historians today; some believe that they saved many lives while others argue that they were directly responsible for several civilian deaths including those of Anna Hawkins (later famous author) and her husband Richard Hawkins Sr.. In 1865 Union general Nathan Bedford Forrest marched through Kingsland on his way towards Selma during the American Civil War; when he reached the town he burned everything he found inside before retreating into neighboring Clayton County west of downtown Athens. When Atlanta became an independent city in 1877 it annexed KingsLAND; so when Atlanta annexed Fulton County in 1899 it also included KingsLAND which then became part of Atlanta's Second Ward). In 1907 Kingstown Road was renamed Cumberland Parkway after Senator Robert Byrd who represented Georgia’s Third Congressional District from West Virginia until his death in 1913 . In 1922 Kingstown Road again became Cumberland Parkway when overlayed onto Fulton County’s Fourth Ward .

Kingsland is a city in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 20,912 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area and forms the eastern border of DeKalb County. In 1853, General Nathan Bedford Forrest purchased 640 acres (248 hectares) of land north of Kingsland Creek for $2 per acre. He named his new location Kingsland because it would be a stronghold against cavalry raids by Native Americans. In 1865, King George V and his wife Alexandra were visiting Fulton County when they met Lieutenant Colonel James Longstreet. Longstreet admired King George's bravery as he led Confederate forces during the American Civil War and decided to name his new community after him. The city became known as "Longstreet's Battlefield" after General Longstreet's victory over Union troops at the Battle of Chickamauga in 1863. The city was established on December 10, 1868, when Governor John A. Logan approved the annexation of what is now DeKalb County byAtlanta for $5 million dollars which was raised through an issue of bond paper that sold at auction on September 12th, 1868 . On January 1st 1870 King Grady Fenton was installed as Mayor following a popular vote with only one candidate opposing him- Jno Henshaw who had run on an anti-annexation ticket . Fenton increased transportation options within Atlanta by extending MARTA from its original terminus in Buckhead to Kingsland where trains stopped just south of Kingston square until 1966 when MARTA Extension #1 reached downtown Atlanta and continued past downtown to Alpharetta
Kingsland was a town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. It was established in 1812 and had a population of 605 people at the 2000 census. The town ceased to exist as an entity on July 1, 2018, when it merged with other localities in the Kingman-Douglas area to form the new city of Douglasville.
