The first AR-15 Upper Receiver was designed by Eugene Stoner in 1969. It was a basic design with the barrel threaded into the upper receiver, and it used a standard AR-10 handguard. The following year, Springfield Armory produced an updated version of the AR-15 Upper Receiver that featured an interchangeable backstrap system and a Picatinny rail on top. The original rifle models were designated “walkie talkies” because they could be converted to fire 6mm rounds by adding brass hangers to the front sight base and altering the rear sight curve.
Kingsland was a small town in southwest Georgia, located on the Chattahoochee River. The community began as a clearing in the woods and grew quickly due to its location and fertile soil. By 1851, Kingsland had a population of 100 people. In 1868, the railroad arrived in Kingsland and started to allow for growth. The town reached its peak around 1907 with over 1,000 residents. However, by 1920, Kingsland had shrunk to just 80 people. Today, the town is only traces remaining of its past including an old schoolhouse that still stands and some homes from the early 1900s that are still standing.
Kingsland was founded in 1819 by John King, a captain in the Georgia Militia. The town was named for King's land grant from the British Crown. It became an important center of cotton production during the antebellum period. In 1865, it was acquired by Confederate forces during the American Civil War and renamed Petersburg. After the war, Kingsland declined as a cotton-producing community and fell into disrepair. It regained some former economic vitality in the late 20th century, but today is a small town with few residents.
