The city was founded on May 20, 1837 by General David Coffee and Colonel George Wright as a town on the edge of the Chattahoochee River. The first building in Kennesaw was a Public buildings Commission School which opened in 1839. The history of Kennesaw begins with General David Coffee who settled here in 1837 after leaving his previous post as Commander of British forces in North America. He built Coffee's Mill and soon afterwards he began to sell goods from his mill to farmers all around the region. In 1840 he built a home for himself and his family which remains standing today - now known as "General Coffee House". In 1845, Mr John Auld moved from St Johns County, Georgia to purchase land west of downtown Kennesaw and started to build what would become Known as Gadsden Park which included parts of what is now Midtown Atlanta today including Peachtree Street NW and Flowery Branch Road NW Today it is home to many shops and restaurants etc... Gadsden Park remained an open space until 1870 when it became part of Cobb County Jail complex where it still stands today

This paper became an advocate for Republican Party candidates throughout all levels Of government including local county elections where they won control over many governmental bodies such as highways, schools etc.- something unheard of until then! For African Americans living through these times it meant new opportunities not only economically but also politically speaking given previous discriminatory practices within society towards them which continued even into Reconstruction itself among other races across America despite being explicitly outlawed by federal law! African Americans working inside white households generally got better treatment than their counterparts working outside white households- though some did experience racism both ways regardless... In 1900 racism still existed openly amongst some whites residing in town although slowly dying out overall; however by 1960 it had noticeably disappeared among all classes within town thanks primarily to Mayor Bob Dooley's efforts In 2003 Mayor Dooley announced plans for construction of a new freeway interchange east off I-75 near downtown Kennesawa - Groundbreaking took place on October 15th 2004 followed by opening ceremonies on November 2nd 2005 with participation from military personnel stationed at Camp Butler nearby
