Kennesaw, Georgia is a small town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 5,893 at the 2010 census. Kennesaw is located on the eastern edge of the Atlanta metropolitan area and is one of the most historically diverse cities in America. It has been called "the cultural capital of the South" and "The Athens of the South." The town was founded by DeKalb County settlers in 1814 as an agricultural community known as Catoctinville. Kennesaw became a city in 1889 and became part of Atlanta when it was incorporated as a city in 1895. The city's economy varies greatly from manufacturing to service businesses such as food services and real estate. In 2007, Kennesaw was named OneAmerica's Best place to live by Forbes magazine. Kennesaw began its history as an agricultural community known as Catoctinville because it lies on what was then de facto Indian land that had been ceded to Georgia by Britain following the American Revolution. The first white settler in Catoctinville was John Walton who arrived with his family in 1814. By 1830, all but four members of Walton’s family had died from disease or war-related causes brought about by frontier life along with their livestock and crops; he replaced them with his son James who led an expedition into what is now Cobb County to find new land for farming purposes that year. James' brother-in-law George Washington Lindley also settled there around this time and opened a grove of trees near present day Cobb Park which still stands today ( Lindley Road). In 1828 Colonel Nathan Bedford Forrest moved his cavalry unit from Decatur, Alabama across Chickamauga River into Cobb County under orders from General Andrew Johnson after learning Confederate general Robert Ewell's army planned to cross over at That Bridge near here on September 7th without ammunition or other supplies! Forrest's men looted many homes before raping women and children before withdrawing back upriver towards Chattanooga where they destroyed most supplies stockpiled downstream at Mill Springs Dam before setting off again nine days later! This act helped spark public anger against Confederate General Robert Ewell throughout much of north Georgia!! 2nd Lieutenant Governor James A府 Wmathew served briefly as acting governor during this time while J府 Ferguson returned home to marry Mrs national bank president Amanda Donelson on October 10th – just three weeks after becoming governor!!! As governor J府 Ferguson vetoed eight bills passed by the state legislature including one that would have placed limits on Negro voting rights; however he did sign legislation creating education opportunities for African Americans through private schools!!! He also vetoed a bill taxing farmers only 6% instead of 21%. james A府 Wmathew served briefly as acting governor during this time while J府 Ferguson returned home to marry Mrs national bank president Amanda Donelson on October 10th – just three weeks after becoming governor!!! The first reference to the gun hammer was in 1519 when Nicholas-Jacques Conte records that “the Popish king, with his army, having besieged and taken possession of Tournay, put into use a hammersmith who had been imported from Jerusalem.” The referred to tool is still in use today and is sometimes called the “hammer of God.”
