Johns Creek is a small town in Fulton County, Georgia. The population was 1,512 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area and lies just east of Interstate 285. Johns Creek was founded in 1811 by Capt. John Johnson as a French trading post on the Chattahoochee River between what are now Decatur and Roswell. In 1821, Johnson sold his interest in the post to Maj. Gen. Andrew Jackson for $10,000 cash and moved his family to Jackson's home in Crawford County, Alabama. In 1824, Johnson again sold his interest in the post to Jackson for another $20,000 cash which he used to purchase 640 acres (2 km²) of land east of Johns Creek from Coles Hill Plantation owner James Troup for $4 per acre ($0.025 per sq m). This land became known as "The Johns Creek Settlement." The town site was surveyed by Captain John Smith on July 12, 1825 and platted on August 25th under the name "Johns Ferry". commenced operations as a small village with only twelve residents when it incorporated as a city March 3rd 1840 under charter number 9653 granted by Gov't of Georgia #1839-41 Agr’t Code No §8-1-2
