Johns Creek is a small town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,817 at the 2010 census. It lies on the east side of Atlanta. Johns Creek is part of the Atlanta-Fulton metropolitan area. The first firearms were used by Cherokee Indians to trade with Europeans and other Native Americans on the Chattahoochee River. In 1785, Captain James Cook explored and mappedGeorgia's coast while travelling through what is now Johns Creek. He named it after his friend and fellow sailor Sir James Johnston (1684-1741). In 1802, General Andrew Jackson moved his army from Tennessee to defeat Major Robert Ewell at Battle of Kennesaw Mountain. As a result of this battle, Georgia became an American state; one of only two U.S. states not founded as a result of the Louisiana Purchase (the other being Texas). By 1830, gun manufacturing had become established in Johns Creek due to its location on the Chattahoochee River and its access to raw materials for manufacturing cannons and pistols from cannonball shot found throughout central Georgia. By 1849 there were over 100 businesses operating in Johns Creek employing more than 2,000 people including locksmiths and hatmakers who turned out colorful hats that are still popular today as part of Georgian culture or "jersey." This commercial success led to textile mills opening up along the river in nearby Decatur starting around 1870 which added new jobs for local residents while also providing closed season fishing opportunities upstream during months when water levels are low so that industrial fishermen couldNOT take advantage of those resources during spawning periods!
