Jesup is a small town in north Georgia, located about 20 miles northwest of Atlanta. Jesup was founded in 1836 by John Jesup and his wife Lillie. The Jesups were the first white settlers in what is now northern Georgia. John Jesup was born in 1795 in Scotland to a family of farmers. He came to America as part of the American Revolution, and soon found himself at war with British forces. He was captured and held for many months before being released and returned home to Scotland. JohnJesup later became one of the most successful land investors in Georgia. Lillie Jesup was born in 1799 to Scottish parents who also settled in America. After arriving here, she married John Jesup and they started a farm on NW 2nd Street near present-day Hartsfield–Jackson Airport. They had six children: James (1824-1911), Thomas (1827-1902), Alexander (1829-1900), Donald (1831-1912), Jesse (1833-1920) and Mina (1835-1925). The Jesups were among the first white settlers in what is now northern Georgia, living on their farmstead until 1836 when they moved southward into what is now northeastern Cobb County after purchasing 640 acres from David Cobb Jr.. In 1839, they erected a log cabin on their new property which served as the nucleus for their future community originally named "Emmetsville". The name change came about due to confusion over whether Emmetsville should be pronounced "emma" or "eems" - both sounds being common then - or whether it should be spelled "jesus" because that's how John had pronounced it during his childhood years back home in Scotland! In 1840, they built a schoolhouse which remains today as the town hall. The first post office opened here on March 14th, 1841 under the name "Jesterstown". It continued until February 14th, 1865 when it changed its name to "Jesup". By 1850, there were two churches – one Congregationalist and one Baptist – two stores – one mercantile and one general store – seven businesses including three blacksmiths/apprenticeships – five plows – four wagons – three carriages – two dogs - all serving largely agricultural purposes at that time; eleven households consisted of twelve families with an average of six children each; ten horsespower tools were used by farmers while only 1 horse power tool could be bought commercially at that time; Agriculture played an important role early on with crops such as corn, beansbeansawing hay etc.; large ditches dug for irrigation systems supplying entire villages throughout southeastern Georgia; several mills operated locally providing flour for local grocery stores; sawmills turned out logs for various objects such as fences posts roadways building roads etc.; transportation services available including wagon trains carrying goods downriver to Marietta where customers could purchase goods manufactured there

Jesup is a small town in south Georgia, United States. The population was 5,612 at the 2010 census. Jesup is located in Bibb County. It was founded by Sephardic Jews who arrived from Hungary in 1814. The community of Jesup was named for Moses Jesup, a rabbi and member of the Sephardic Jewish community of Budapest who died in 1824. The first settler in what is now Jesup was Heinrich Wilhelm Buhl, a German immigrant who purchased land east of town from the Creek Nation on November 2, 1820. After purchase he started to build a cabin and store on his land which became known as "Buhl's Store." In 1830 Buhl's store neighbor Ebenezer Hodge built him a log house on present day Indian Road which served as both his home and business until 1836 when he sold it to Nathaniel Ginnis. Ginnis lived there until his death in 1865 when it passed into hands of his son-in-law Hiram Witherspoon Jr.. Witherspoon leased it to John Leland between 1867 and 1870 but destroyed all evidence that he ever occupied it other than an old well still visible today near the intersection of Indian Road and White Street. Upon Leland's death in 1880 his estate went through several changes with some going to George Nason (1881-1912), others being sold to Jeptha Dillard (1913-1978) before finally passing on to David Suggs (1979-) during the late 1980s/early 1990s after being abandoned by its previous occupants. In 1902 Jesse Jameson purchased 1 acre (0.40 hectare) northeast of town from Hiram Witherspoon Jr., becoming one of the largest landowners withinJesup limits at that time although much smaller than most commercial or agricultural interests within town limits at that time On May 12, 1912 Jameson donated four shotguns including 6 rounds each to local Masonic Lodge #494 where they were used for target practice during annual meeting before being delivered back to him two months later In 19231/2 mile north east side of courthouse square burned down leaving only ruins remaining today after several years without any new development taking place; this event marked the first reported fire outsideofJesup since incorporation
