Jesup, Georgia is a small town in the northeastern corner of Fulton County, Georgia. It is located on the banks of the Chattahoochee River and lies about 20 miles northeast of Atlanta. After independence from Britain in 1865, Jesup became part of new Georgia Territory; however, it remained an incorporated town until 1907 when it was renamed for Ulysses S Grant because he had been governor during that time. After World War II, much development took place withinJesup; including a large hospital built between 1951 and 1953 which still serves as a functioning medical center today. Also during this time period important industry expansions took place such as chemical manufacturing which has continued up through present day industries such as plastics production and aluminum smelting operations In recent years many small businesses have started up around downtown Jesup but with larger plans if they can overcome some obstacles along the way
