Fenton and his shop was open from 1820 to 1830. In 1824, Jesse James' wagon train invaded Georgia and stopped at Jesup for supplies, resulting in the Gunfight at Peachtree Bend which ended with James's death.

Jesup is a small town in the U.S. state of Georgia, located in Jesup County. The population was 1,772 at the 2010 census. Jesup is one of two cities in Archer County and was founded by Mormon settlers in 1827. It became an unincorporated community after it was abandoned by the Mormons and mail service stopped there in 1928. In 1945, Jesup became a part of Archer County when it was created from parts of Cobb and Fulton counties. The town dates back to 1827 when Mormon pioneers arrived in what is now Jesup County from Illinois, Missouri, and Arkansas. They named their new settlement "Jesup" for John Wesley Smith, who had earlier been the president of the LDS Church in Utah Territory. The first school opened at Jesup on February 24, 1827; this was followed by a gristmill on October 15th that year. A post office called Jesup was established at this location on October 16th, 1828; it remained open until November 3rd, 1865 when it changed its name to Oglethorpeville after Major General James Oglethorpe (1784-1856). In 1830++Jesup had 7 families living here with: 2 farmers + 5 labourers = 12 people Agriculture continued to be significant here for many years as landowner/farmers could not always afford to buy flour or other goods needed for market stalls outside their homes so they raised corn, wheat and other crops which were then dried and stored winter months before being sold during summertime to villagers nearby or transported downriver to distant markets or towns like Atlanta where they were used as feedstock for early industrialization projects such as cotton ginners or sugar refineries
Jesup was founded in 1819 by Captain James F. Cooke, a United States Navy officer who had served in the Mediterranean and Asia. The town was named after John Jesup, an Englishman who had settled in Georgia in 1785.
