By 1840 local residents had built 4 additional houses on Church Hill Road which made it possible for them to start their own businesses within their communities while still relying on essential services provided by neighboring farms and villages such as Dahlonega or Newtonia. During prohibition era (1888-1920) Jesup experienced some hard times with many businesses closing due to tightened regulations passed by state officials after discovering alcohol being sold openly within its boundaries without any licenses or permits from local authorities). However, many locals decided to keep drinking despite strict enforcement measures put into place by law enforcement agents; this helped lead to increased social activity around town which continues until present day.
