Hunt named his new community after Hiram Walker Cady (1812-1892), an American philanthropist and member of Congress from Ohio who helped fund education for freed slaves in America and organized African Americans into trade unions to improve their economic prospects Cady's Donation to Hinesville schools began with 12 half ton caskets filled with books donated by him which were delivered free to local schools starting Spring Term 1827 according to one source however it seems more likely that this contribution came after some sort of donation or pledge by Cady himself given his long association with local schools Hiram Waddell Cady School District No 1 opened its doors on October 26th 1827 under the name "Inverness Academy" After only one year students moved up North To Marietta where they formed district number 2 which became Fairmount Township on February 14th 1830 Thereafter Hiram Waddell Cady SchoolDistrict #1 served as school district until finally being dissolved in 1878 when all but 3 residents withdrew along with most if not all property becoming part of Fulton County In 1984 trustees closed dismissed building due lack of use & subsequent demolition not long after . Hines in 1837 as a small town on the east side of Lumpkin River and named after his father-in-law, Jesse Hines. The first store and post office were built on the current site of Rucker Park in 1839. In 1847, a sawmill and grist mill were built south of town; both mills were destroyed by fire in 1848. A railroad came through Hinesville in 1870 and renamed it the Atlanta & Chattanooga Railroad; the original tracks still exist today as part of the CSX Transportation system. In 1907, an all-night movie theater called Picture Palace was opened in downtown Hinesville with seating for 1,500 people; it closed in 1959 but left behind a legacy of cultural significance that continues to be enjoyed today by many people who visit downtown Hineville each year during summertime when music concerts are held at various venues across from Plaza Midtown mall
