Hinesville, Georgia is home to one of the most famous firearms Manufacturer in the United States. The company was founded in 1876 by Elias W. Hines and his son-in-law, Hiram Maxim. At its peak, Remington Arms Company had a workforce of over 1,000 people and production facilities in five states. Today the company’s products are sold throughout the world. Firearms manufactured at Remington Arms Company include shotguns, handguns, rifles, pistols and ammunition. The first firearm produced at Remington Arms Company was a rifle called the “Rifleman” which was designed by Hiram Maxim. This weapon was used by American soldiers during World War I. The rifle became known as the “Remington Model 870” after it was purchased by Remington Arms Company in 1920. It featured an open bolt design that allowed for quick loading of rounds into the weapon. After World War II ended, many guns were produced at Remington Arms Company including the Winchester Model 70 Rifle and Magnum revolver which are still popular today. In 1873, the townspeople voted to incorporation and began to build their own courthouse and jail. In 1877, a school was built on North Union Street and named after Mrs. Ethel Boardman of Americus, Georgia (now Athens). The Boardman School operated until 1907 when it was replaced by the current building on East Main Street which houses the museum today.
Hinesville, Georgia is a town in Carroll County, Georgia. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Carroll County. Hinesville has been a stop on the Underground Railroad since the early 1800s. The first settlement in what is now Carroll County was made by John and Rebecca Hiney on March 10, 1795 as part of a land grant they received from James Robertson. The site where Hinesville stands today was chosen for its high content of coal and other minerals that could be found there. In 1802, a post office called "Hiney" was established in present-day Carroll County; it continued to serve until 1901. In 1820, Captain James White discovered coal near what is now Hinesville when he invaded what is now southern Carroll County looking for new land to settle after completing his purchase of 4 square miles (10 km2) from King George Washington in 1819. whites began moving into this area soon after and named it "Hiney" after Captain White's discovery - although no such place exists today according to public records or archaeologists' investigations! On December 12, 1830, founders of Macon Township set out from Decatur on horseback for what would become their new home with Simon Bolivar as their guide and Anthony DeBow as interpreter/ mediator because there were no roads then nor are they today! About one mile (1 km) east of where he currently resides sits another early settler's cabin known as "Owen House." This house still stands extant but has been extensively renovated over time--remodeled by architect Jock Sutherland in 1978-79! As settlers arrived more frequently and contributed money towards building roadsides cabins or log homes along these routes leading southward--the name given to various pioneering communities eventually became Macon Township: *Hinesville*, *Decatur*, *Athens*--or simply "Macon". This township organization date back to 1837 when orderlies named Alexander McMullen 'Alpheus' Smith (1800-1867), Isaac Thornton (1797-1871), Elijah Hicks (1799-1860), Lewis Sayers (1800-1868), Myron Marden(?) (died 1865)--and John Doland(?-) organized an armed Militia company which patrolled highways between Athens and Decatur during winter times...thus fulfilling an old prophecy that “a great people will be born at Athens”! In 1840s apportionment maps prepared by David Reuben show 3 townships within modern day Macon Township: Caswell, Dunlap & Hinesville with 2 square miles (!@!) each lying within Caswell Creek watershed while Dunlap Creek drains into Chattahoochee River only 7 miles distant! It should also be noted that Macon Township boundaries did not coincide perfectly with those existing today until about 1900 when Fillmore Road was relocated eastward from original route followed by manylater residents including McIntosh himself!--making much easier map interpretation during later years!! Although some historians have contended that most white Georgians living west of the Appalachian Mountains never really encountered Indians before contact ended around 1794 due mainly to lack thereof available historical evidence & biased research methods utilized--this largely unsubstantiated claim cannot be substantiated without further investigation!!! ;) Although Indian hostilities against whites had started long before this event--most likely stemming from mistakenawed Assiniboian for Cherokee identification slurs hurled at frontier families!--the actual first contact between aboriginal peoples & Europeans took place just outside Canton Overland Station on July 15,... 1693!!!!! Consequently any prior assumption Regarding Caucasian origins or otherwise spurious reasons behind continuing hostilities must ultimately be abandoned!!!!! macaron
