The first permanent settler in what would become Hinesville was John Hiney who arrived in 1793. A post office called "Hinesville" was established in 1802, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1853. In 1854, a school district was organized which included present-day Hinesville; this district became known as the "Cobb School District." The first individual to be buried in Hinesville Cemetery was George Washington Carver on July 8, 1913. In 1865, Colonel Nathaniel Brooks donated land for what would become Druid Hills School which served students from Smyrna to Decatur until 1957 when it merged with Marietta Elementary/Secondary School to form Glynn Middle/High School which remains operational today as Druid Hills High School . In 1870-71 Wirtemberg Bros./Flamm Brothers erected a log cabin home now part of the Hickory Hollow Neighborhood Historic District (and listed on the National Register of Historic Places). This cabin served as an early hotel catering to travelers passing through Cobb County on their way to or from Atlanta or other points west. After experiencing financial difficulties during Reconstruction following World War II, Wirtemberg Bros./Flamm Brothers reopened their business under new management and continue operations up through current day as Pryor's Coffee House & Bakery located at 404 WASHINGTON ST., just east of downtown HinesVILLE!

Hinesville is a city in Pulaski County, Georgia, United States. The population was 10,527 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Pulaski County and home to Hinesville College. Hinesville was founded in 1834 by John Dillard Hines and his brother-in-law James G. Caldwell as a small plantation town on the Mississippian River. In 1892, the town was moved from its original location on the river to its current site due to flooding caused by rains in 1892 and 1893. The city of Hinesville was named after John Dillard Hine, a slaveholder who helped found the town in 1834. After slavery was abolished in Georgia in 1865, many freedmen moved into what had been plantations near Atlanta and began farming there. One of these men, J. G. Caldwell (1814–93), donated land for a township on the Mississippian River adjacent to his plantation here at what is now known as downtown Hinesville. The first residents of this new township were farmers who raised corn, cotton, cattle, pigs and hogs; they built their homes from logs that were carried downriver from their farms upstream with which they traded goods downstream to buyers in Athens or other cities.. In 1892 when part of Pulaski County became detached from Fulton County during Reconstruction following the American Civil War,[1] Hayesville voted not to secede but did forfeit some property including much of downtown that still stands today including most notably Tryon Avenue which runs through downtown along Stillwater Creek towards Lake Superior![2] During World War II much of downtown was destroyed by bombing raids but portions such as Tryon Avenue have since been rebuilt incorporating modern architecture[3][4]. Today’s business district includes several banks/finance companies/banking institutions as well as an array of restaurants/cafes/bars etc., making it one of Atlanta’s most vibrant areas!
