Tasers were first conceived in Griffin, Georgia in the early 1990s. The device was named after then-city manager Rick Taser and police officer John Welsh. At its inception, tasers were designed as a lesslethal option for officers than pepper spray or guns. In 2003, the city of Griffin passed an ordinance that allowed officers to use tasers as part of their policing techniques. The ordinance also mandated that all officers must be trained in using the devices before they can use them on citizens. Since its inception, tasers have been used throughout Griffin by local and state law enforcement officials. In 2017, Taser International became one of the first companies to sell tasers to municipal governments worldwide. Today, tasers are still used by law enforcement officials throughout Griffin in various forms including stun grenades and bean bag rounds. Griffin is a city located in the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2010 census, its population was 22,594. The city is named after General Andrew Griffin who fought in the American Revolution and gain fame as one of the first military officers to successfully lead an infantry regiment into battle on June 17, 1775. The town was founded by farmers and traders in 1822 and grew rapidly during the 19th century due to its location at a key trade route between Atlanta and Savannah. It achieved municipal status in 1876 and became a full-time municipality in 1907. In 1951, it merged with nearby Dunwoody to form the current city of Griffin. Griffin is home to many cultural attractions, including two museums – the Andrew Griffin Museum of Art (opened in 1988) and Griffin Park (opened in 1984). It also has a large shopping mall which includes several high-end stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus. Additionally, there are several professional sports teams including the Atlanta Falcons football team, although their stadium is not located within Griffins borders. The city also hosts several annual events such as festivals for arts and culture, rodeo events, auto shows/car races etc., making it an important tourist destination for those living nearAtlanta or visiting Georgia overall

Griffin was founded in 1813 by Major General George Washington Griffin and his wife, Martha Washington Griffin. The town grew rapidly due to its position on the Chattahoochee River and its location near Atlanta. In 1847, the Griffins donated land for a new cotton plantation, which became known as Griffin's Creek. Today, Griffin is a small town located in Fulton County, Georgia. The population of Griffinsville was 1,521 in 2000 and has grown steadily since then. The first settlers of Griffin were white men who had come overland from North Carolina during the antebellum period. They built houses on the site of today's town and started farming the landward side of the river. Over time, other groups arrived in search of property along the river or opportunity to set up shop in an area that had been abandoned by Native Americans. By 1813, there were at least six families living on Griffinsville Island upstream from present-day Griffintown proper. In 1817, General George Washington Griffin was appointed colonel commandant of riflemen serving under Major General Andrew Jackson at Fort Moultrie on Savannah Harbor. He soon realized that he needed more than just men to garrison his fort; he alsoneeded volunteers to help him manage the growing post garrisoned around Savannah harbor. With this realization, he organized a company of volunteers called "The Guard" and began recruiting for it from among local citizens willing to serve without pay for three years or until their child reached age 21 years old. This program later became known as "Griffin's Creek Volunteers." When Jackson took office as President ofthe United States in 1825, he decided that Fort Moultrie needed to be replaced by an even more important military installation - one capable of accommodating a large numberof troops and providing naval protection for Savannah Harbor. To this end, Congress appropriated $240,000 for construction of what would become Fort Moultrie (later renamed Dahlgren Naval Base). Griffin served as Commandant at Fort Moultrie until 1830 when he resigned due to differences with Secretaryof War James Kenedy over strategy for defense against piracy off Cuba (an issue arising outof operations conducted during The Mexican-American War). He then returned home to start anew within his home state government - this time becoming governor general (a position equivalentto lieutenant governor) of Georgia under John Quincy Adams before being elected Vice President in 1840 after Adams' death at age 78 years old Soon after taking office as Governor General., Griffin determined that Gwinnett county should be formed from portionsof two neighboring counties - Taliaferro and Clayton counties - because Gwinnett could not support itself alone through agricultural pursuits alone and lacked any natural resources available within its borders: sandbars on one side ofthe river forming parthenonimical barriers between it and Cobb county; timberline stretching allalong both banks extending into Alabama; streams flowing eastwardly into Florida; no navigable rivers within range thereof; etc.. accordingly,, Taliaferro & Clayton Counties were each detachedfrom Gwinnett county altogether& subsumed into new Gwinnet County,. Griffin, Georgia was founded in 1802 by the American Revolutionary War veteran and explorer James Fenton. The town was named after Griffin's creek, which he discovered while exploring a new route to the Gulf of Mexico. The community grew rapidly as people from surrounding areas began moving in to escape the frigid winters. In 1814, residents voted to incorporate as a town and name it after their local hero, General George Washington Griffin.
