Griffin was once known as the "Blade Capital of the South" because of its high quality knives and Cutlery Supply stores. Today, Griffin is a vibrant community with a rich history and plenty to offer visitors, both local and out-of-towners alike. The first knives made in Griffin were simple crude instruments used by farmers for farming purposes. Over time, however, some clever minds began to create more complex knives that could be used for various tasks such as meat handling and hunting. One such individual was Daniel Boone who created one of the most famous hunting knives ever made – the Bowie Knife. By 1800, Griffins had become a bustling city with its own thriving industry based largely on agriculture and trade. This growth led to increasing demand for better quality knives from consumers all over the region. By 1853, Grifns had acquired their own custom forge which helped increase production significantly while also creating some truly unique pieces of bladecraftsmanship that still stand today. During this time period there were also several important landmark events that shaped Griffin's knife industry: 1) The opening of Grifns Custom Forge in 1853 led to an increased level of innovation and creativity within the knife making process; 2) In 1865 Grifns became part of Confederate States Armory during the American Civil War; 3) In 1928 Grifns merged with two other Cutlery Supply stores forming Steubenville Knives; 4) In 1984 Steubenville Knives merged with Schrade Corporation creating Schrade Cutlery Inc.; 5) In 2001 Schrade Cutlery Inc.'s parent company divested itself from J&J Cutlery LLC resulting in continued family control over Griffin's knife manufacturing operation until 2013 when it was sold off to privately held manufacturer Emerson Electric Company

Griffin, Georgia is a small town located in Macon County, Georgia. The population was 5,848 at the 2000 census. The town is bordered by Decatur to the north, Athens to the east, and Lumpkin County to the south. Griffin is home to two large universities- Vanderbilt University and Kennesaw State University- as well as numerous small businesses and churches. The first settlers of Griffin came from England in 1821. They were followed by other English immigrants in the 1840s, including John Day and his son George Day. In 1851, General James Gadsden Purchase made land grants totaling 1 mile square on each side of Decatur Creek for white settlement. 54 families started farming there in 1852-53. By 1860, all but one family had left for other parts of Georgia due to poverty or war service. In 1865, Griffin was renamed after General Jumper Griffin (1814-1875), who fought in the American Civil War on both sides. He was killed at Appomattox Court House while leading a cavalry charge against Confederate forces under Robert Ewell Lee. On July 3rd 1870, General Jumper's great grandson Augustus Steele Griffen presented plans for a new courthouse complex consisting of three buildings: a administration building (now known as the Steele Building), a wing for public schools (now known as Wright Hall), and an attached garage that became home to Grigg's wagon shop and blacksmith shop before it closed in 1984; today it houses part of Pritchett Middle School . In 1904–1905 Ernest Ladd purchased 640 acres east of Griffin along Chattahoochee River where he built what is now known as Ladd Farms Racetrack which served as racing ground until 1971 when its track was sold off to MARTA Rail Company subsidiary Cobb Place Racecourse Incorporated This racecourse still operates today under different name(s) such as Gulfstream Park racetrack). After World War II most people returned Home but some remained until 1960 when Macon County accepted annexation by Atlanta making Grignon an official city In 1962 citizens voted not to annex into Atlanta again so Grignon reverted back to its original name of Griffin
