Griffin, Georgia is located in the Appalachian Mountains of southcentral Alabama. The town was founded in 1801 by James Griffin and his family as a log cabin community on the Chattahoochee River. In 1824, Griffin donated land to the state of Georgia for a public square, which became known as Griffin Park. The town was renamed after General Andrew Jackson in 1830. In 1885, the town passed from hand to hand through several iterations before becoming an incorporated municipality within Gadsden County. As of 2018, there are over 2,000 residents living in Griffintown. Griffin was originally settled by Scots-Irish immigrants who arrived during the early 1800s. It was not until after Andrew Jackson's victory in the American Revolution that many Scots-Irish began migrating to North America and settling down in what is now Griffintown. At first they worked on farms or construction sites across Alabama but soon enough they started trading goods with other parts of Georgia and western Tennessee. By 1800, most of those Scottish-Irish people had already moved away from Griffintown because it suffered greatly from slave trade rumors and violence associated with cotton plantations at the time. However, some remain rootsin Griffthonie today including a few farmers who still grow crops on small plots of land next to their old homes—a practice that continues today despite regulations prohibiting such farming practices statewide. In 1824 James Griffin donated 320 acres (12 hectares) of land northeast of present day downtown Griffin to become part of what would become Georgia’s new state capital city – Atlanta – creating one of the earliest towns within GA boundaries This donation also helped spur development around Griffin Park where citizens could enjoy public square while also enjoying access to education and commerce available only outside central GA . After years of struggles between various factions vying for control over local government features like school board meetings or fire engines services, Griffthonie finally became an incorporated municipality within Gadsden County on December 4 1865 when all other Gwinnett County municipalities were merged into county government During its formative years Griffthonie experienced heavy conflict due to its location near two major military installations: Fort Pickens guarding Mobile Bay against pirates and Fort Gaines protecting Atlanta from Native Americans . These conflicts caused much tension among both locals and outsiders which often led to fistfights or even shootings . Despite this turmoil however, Griffthonie slowly grew into a thriving community characterized by strong civic spirit , entrepreneurialism , industriousness ,and entrepreneurship . Today’s Griffthonie marks another chapter in its history as one Of Gwinnett County’s premier medical communities with multiple hospitals including Grifffontane Hospital & Medical Center (GHMC), Chattahoochee Regional Hospital (CHRH), Grifftown Memorial Health System (GFRHS), St Johns Healthcare System (SJHS), Butler University School Of Medicine (BUSM) as well as numerous clinics throughout Gadsden County providing care for both residents and visitors alike
Griffin, Georgia was founded in 1821 by Captain John Griffin. The town grew rapidly and became a major center for cotton production. By the late 1800s, Griffin had become a thriving city with a growing population of over 10,000 people. In 1910, Griffin was incorporated as a municipality.
