Gainesville is a city in south central Georgia. It was founded in 1836 and is the county seat of Gwinnett County. Gainesville is located on the Chattahoochee River, about 41 miles (66 km) east of Atlanta and 17 miles (27 km) west of Savannah. The population was 24,953 at the 2010 census, making it the fastest-growing city in Georgia. The first Europeans to visit what is now Gainesville were surveyors working for the British government in 1824. However, until 1836 there was little evidence that humans had ever lived hereabouts. A group of Methodist missionaries led by Reverend James Pritchard arrived on horseback from Chattanooga in early November 1835 and began exploring what they called “the new world”. They found evidence of human habitation nearby but no settlements or villages had yet been established. A grant from the United States Government made possible construction of a road from Decatur to Athens which opened up this area for settlement in late December 1835 by Captain John Smith and his assistants who built an encampment near present-day downtown Gainesville on land grants given to them by General James Moultrie as part of his efforts to open up new frontier territories for US settlers. On February 9, 1840, Gadsden Parish voted 2–1 to incorporate as a town with its own government and name change from Gadsden County Court House to City Hall Square, after Lord Liverpool’s suggestion that such an act be taken as a sign that Britain had recognized Georgia as an independent country under American jurisdiction since her independence from Great Britain two years earlier on January 1st, 1776! It wasn’t until 1861 when Gainesville became Alexander Hamilton Place (later renamed Peachtree Street after then Mayor William Peachtree), while Gwinnett County continued with its original name: Gadsden Parish Courthouse Square – still known today as City HallSquare! On July 30th 1912 Mayor John Hargrave dedicated Alumni Field (then known as Lakeland Park) adjacent to current day University Avenue just east of Downtown Gainesville! In 1916 Emanuel Cellerwas elected mayor and served one term before being succeeded by Wofford Bynum who served two terms before being replaced by Harry Payne Whitney during World War I; Whitney then served two terms consecutively before retiring effective December 12th 1920 after becoming furniture salesman/builder; Healey Stromberg took over office until May 14th 1933 when Wofford Bynum again became mayor effective date following victory over Harry Payne Whitney who lost contest for re-election against Healey Stromberg who won handily!. There is a long and rich history of shooting protection products, devices and methods. The first firearms were made with shot shells as part of their design. Shot shells were used to protect handguns from the fouling caused by Bullets hitting metal ‘chamber’ in the barrels. A cartridge that could be fired with a shot shell was developed, called the Defense Pistol round. This cartridge had an explosive charge inside a small brass case that would detonate when hit by a bullet, causing the round to explode and spread shrapnel throughout the area around it - effectively protecting the user frombullet injury or death. Ammunition for this type of firearm was also available in both Explosive and Non-Explosive types, making it possible for civilians to purchase these rounds without any special training or equipment. In 1856, Colonel John Brownell developed what became known as The Brownell Rifle - an arm using only buckshot which allowed shooters to easily engage targets at close range without risk of harm from Bullets passing through keyhole sights or other damage done by standard firearms such as pistols (which at this time required practice & skill to use effectively). This rifle featured crosshairs on top of each barrel sight which gave shooters Surefire style aiming assistance while hunting/fishing etc., thus allowing them to engage game at ranges up to 100 yards! soon after its introduction into service, The Brownell Rifle helped revolutionize hunting/fishing /military ammunition usage by giving troops and civilians alike easy access to high quality ammunition they could rely upon safely engaging targets at long distances with ease! The history of Gainesville began with General James A.gaines and his family who immigrated to Georgia from England in 1885. They soon started farming here and built a house on what is now Park Boulevard. In 1886, they had their first child, Mary Alice (later Mrs. James A.) gaines who taught at Winthrop Female Seminary for two years before moving back to live with her parents at 9th Street and Park Boulevard where she completed high school. In 1895, they had their second child Harry born here also named James A., who would later serve as Governor of Georgia from 1974-1981 and 1992-1996. After Harry’s death in 1925, Mrs. Gaines took over running the school until finally selling it to The Auburn Company in 1938 which then sold it to The Watkins Company in 1947 which then sold it to First National Bank of Americus in 1961 which then resold it back to The Auburn Company again until 1971 when First National Bank went out of business so all property reverted back into private hands once again! From 1971-1985 both Mrs Jane Albright (Mrs Gainsville Schools Superintendent) as well as Mr./Msgr./Revd./Dr.—John Cisneros (First National Bank President/CEO) were responsible for running this wonderful institution! Today there are many families that live here full time including many children attending local schools like Ponce de Leon High School orISD’s Stone Mountain Elementary/Middle School! There are also plenty of retirees living here such as those working at nearby Gwinnett County Government Centers or at Coca Cola Bottling Plant & Water Research Laboratory right outside town limits just minutes away if you need some fresh air on a hot day! These days our town has seen an increase in population due mainly to annexation by neighbouring Gwinnett County but we remain vibrant community with great memories dating back centuries long past!

In 1865, Gainesville became the capital of Georgia. During the American Civil War, Gainesville was one of the most heavily contested areas of the state. On December 12, 1861, Confederate General Robert Ewell Battle arrived in Gainesville to lead a major offensive against Union forces under General Ulysses S. Grant. Battle's army was successful in breaching Union lines and routing many units before being pushed back into Georgia hills by Union forces under General Joseph Hooker. This victory set off a chain reaction that led to Confederate successes throughout Southern states as Confederate troops sacked cities and captured military supplies that could be used against Union forces at home. In 1865, Gainesville also became known as "The Birthplace of Reconstruction" because it was where many African Americans who had escaped slavery moved to during Reconstruction Era in Georgia.
