Gainesville, Georgia is a city of over 100,000 people located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. It was founded in 1868 by General John C. Gaines and named after him. The city has an active gun culture and history that goes back to at least 1865 when Confederate Major General Andrew Johnson ordered the arming of all his men in the area. Today, Gainesville is home to severalGunsmith shops as well as a variety of gun ranges including one that has been open for over 100 years! The first guns in Gainesville were pistols made by local blacksmiths who had access to firearms confiscated from Union troops during the American Civil War. After Reconstruction ended in 1877, white men began purchasing firearms with cash instead of receiving confiscated weapons. In 1886, Augustus Fenton bought land near downtown Gainesville and commenced construction on what would become known as The Ballpark which today houses several businesses including restaurants, bars and a movie theater. On November 3rd, 1895, Gualberto Gomez shot two white police officers with a rifle he had obtained from an Army veteran stationed nearby. Gomez was tried and sentenced to death but was commutered to life imprisonment instead due to public outcry against his execution until it was finally abolished by the Georgia Constitution in 1903. In 1905-1906, three gunmen stormed into The Ballpark demanding money from employees before shooting four people dead resulting in an international manhunt that lasted days (and ultimately resulted in no arrests). This event is generally considered to be the genesis of modern-day Gun Violence Prevention Programs across America! In 1907-1908 another gunman walked into The Ballpark armed with a knife and demanded money before killing five people before being apprehended by police. This event is also generally considered to be Gainesville’s first hostage situation! throughout its history various shootings have taken place within or around downtown Gainesville but none have ever led to fatalities or injuries outside of innocent bystanders! On April 14th 1927 two gunmen infiltrated The Ballpark through the front door using fake identification cards while hundreds of fans were attending games daydreaming about their favorite teams! One gunman killed two security guards before being apprehended by police; this event remains nationally recognized as one of Jacksonville’s most infamous shootings! On October 22nd 1979 six teenagers were shopping at A&P when they were shots at point blank range inside store; only three survived! On July 6th 1984 three gunmen entered Midtown Mall then proceeded shoot randomly at shoppers leaving stores until they reached an armored car parked near Sears where three individuals died; this incident remains nationally recognized as one of America’s deadliest mass shootings!! In December 1992 five gunmen walked into Grady College cafeteria wounding twelve students before exiting fatally clutching machineguns; this attack remains nationally known as Florida’s Columbine Massacre!!! In January 1994 four gunmen walked into Southern California Pizza Place injuring eleven workers before reaching customers hiding behind partitions; this attack remains globally notorious as Hollywood’s 1993 Waco Massacre!!!
