Forest Park is a city in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 30,822 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The first evidence of human activity in Forest Park comes from oral traditions which date back to the 1800s. One such tradition involved Cherokee Indians inhabiting what is now Forest Park and selling goods from their homes on the main street in town. In 1892, whenAtlanta was founded, Forest Park was part of the newly formed city and lay within the boundaries of what is now Midtown Atlanta. However, by 1920, most of what is now Forest Park had been annexed by Atlanta as part of an effort to build a larger city with more commerical areas and less residential ones. In 1949, City Council decided that Forestpark should have its own police department and adopted resolutions authorizing expenditures for this purpose totaling $2,500. This decision led to the founding of the current Police Department which has since grown to over 100 officers including 19 detectives and a sergeant! There are many historic buildings located throughout Forrest Park- some dating back to before 1900 while others date back to after incorporation into Atlanta proper! Some include: The Masonic Temple (opened in 1903), Ponce de Leon Hotel (1896), Dallas Baptist Church (1901), Municipal Building (1899) and much more!
Forest Park is located in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 16,769 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area and forms the eastern edge of DeKalb County. The first settlers in Forest Park were farmers who came to the area during the early 1800s. By 1892, Forest Park had a small grocery store and post office. In 1907, a sawmill and grist mill were built in Forest Park by J.C. White & Sons Company. The mills produced lumber for buildings and furniture until World War II when they were converted to manufacturing munitions plants. In 1954, Forrest Park High School was opened in Forest Park by then-Governor Nicholas Junior Johnson as a high school for boys only. Incidentally, this would be Forrest Park's last high school before it merged with DeKalb County's Gwinnett High School in 2013 to form one large high school campus which now includes four schools - ForrestParkHighSchool.,DeKalbCountyHighSchool.,Maynard Industrial High School & Technical Institute., and Gwinnett Tech Academy - all within a walking distance of each other on Peachtree Road near what is now I-285/I-75 interchange). In 1973, Philips Electric Company (now Alcatel) established a research center adjacent to their main plant on Peachtree Road that would later become known as Philips Research Center (PRC). This research center became an important player in many technological advances throughout the years including semiconductor technology which helped spawn Silicon Valley; digital audio/video technology which led to iPod design; medical equipment development; infrared radiation management; smart home products; etc.. In 2007–2008 there was significant redevelopment taking place across Southeast Atlanta primarily centered around nearby MARTA stations - United States Bank Stadium (formerly Georgia Dome), Midtown Station (formerly Atlantic Yards), Phillips Arena (home of the Atlanta Hawks), and Bushnell Center for Performing Arts which has since been renamed LiveNation Presents: Georgia Shakespeare Festival among others - giving new life to Forest park with much investment both above ground and below ground making it more vibrant than ever before!
