Forest Park is a city in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 22,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The city of Forest Park was established on November 16, 1887 by James Gadsden and his wife Letitia Hooker Gadsden. The original grant for the town included . In 1908, a new dam was built to provide water for the expanding city of Atlanta and its schools. The dam also provided power to the first electric lights in Forest Park. The city of Forest Park annexed adjacent townships on December 15, 1915. These annexation ceremonies were held at a meeting room at Pritchard Hotel which had been leased from Mrs Lousiana Williamson who operated it as a hotel until her death in 1914. On July 12, 1922, Forrest Park became one of several cities within the newly created metro area when Atlanta merged with all other cities within Fulton County including Arlington Heights (the old Decatur Township), Druid Hills (present-day Roswell), Lyndhurst (present day Alpharetta), Stone Mountain (present day Steele City) and two small villages: Southside Village and Westside Village. In 1933 ForrestPark annexed Walton Creek which formed an almost contiguous community with Forrestpark that predated both Walton Creek and ForestPark by about 10 years

In 1924, Forrest Epps donated 1 million acres of land to the City of Atlanta for use as a public park. In 1928, Atlanta's first amusement park opened at Forest Park - now one of the most popular tourist destinations in metro Atlanta. The park soon became an important part of local culture and played host to many events such as baseball games and dances. The current incarnation of Forest Park began to form during World War II when millions of dollars were raised by citizens for war purposes. For three years from 1944-46, Forrest Epps donated trees that would be used in Memorial Stadium - now Georgia Dome - on behalf of military veterans living in northeast Fulton County (now northwest Gwinnett). The trees were cut down and transported to Forest Park on flatcars complete with advertising boards reading "Gone To War" throughout the trip! Aftermath efforts included planting 2 million saplings that still thrive today!
