The Forest Park Rifle and Pistol Club was established in 1885. The club enjoyed a long and proud history until 1978, when it was disbanded due to lack of membership. However, the rifle and pistol clubs that still exist today continue to play an important role in Forest Park history. The first firearms were rifles and pistols from England brought over by American colonists during the Revolutionary War. Afterward, slaves were also purchased with money earned from labor. Firearms became more common as ammunition became available. In 1792, Georgia passed a law regulating handguns, which made it illegal for anyone under 21 years old to own or possess any handguns without a license from the state government. This law was repealed in 1802 after Georgia was annexed into the United States of America. In 1885, Forest Park Rifle and Pistol Club began meeting on Saturday mornings at 7:00am to discuss Gun Laws inGeorgia at that time which included but wasn’t limited to shotguns only(and there were no pistols back then). At this time the rifle range had been built behind the Post Office on what is now known as 3rd Street SW., just south of junction of SR-5 & I-285 (it’s now part of US-280/SR-55). It is interesting to note that at this time rifles could only be shot at 100 yards due to lack of space for shooting pistols! The range moderator was Warrant Officer John Crouch who later served in World War II with distinction as Commandant Emeritus at Camp Kilmer Army Airfield near New York City while commandant adjutant general – both with distinction! A plaque on building still bears his name along with those of other original members including future Mayor Harry Elmore Welch who attended our meetings! Another plaque tells about how we completed construction Of “The Grille posts” which can still be seen east side of lot where we met today….. all these things happened over many years!!! Many thanks go out especially Grover Youngquist for donating land on which we built clubhouse addition & ballroom almost 50 years ago!!!!!!!! On October 2nd 1978 our beloved president Grover Youngquist passed away suddenly after many years working hard for us………. We lost one very special leader but gainedmany more friends along the way!!!!!!!!! Our club will forever remember President Youngquist…………

Forest Park, Georgia is a town located in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,849 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area and has a population of 9 million people. Forest Park was founded in 1868 as a small agricultural community near what is now Roswell oval Airport. In 1925, Forest Park became a separately incorporated municipality with its own government and school district. The first post office opened in Forest Park on July 5, 1868. A year later, the first public golf course was built in Forest Park by J.P. Morgan and associates for $2,000 (). In 1926, Forrest Park annexed the adjoining village of Ballwin to form one town block (the present-day Downtown). On February 14, 1927 President Calvin Coolidge signed an act creating ForestPark Township which had total land area of . On March 8th 1928 the township's name was changed from "Ballwin Township" to "Forest Park Township". As part of their efforts to attract industry to their new township they offered tax breaks and other incentives to businesses that moved into or established businesses within it including: having two gas stations open every day; giving away free cars; providing jobs for municipal employees; and building an airport taxiway which would serve as a private airstrip for planes landing at Roswell Airport (). The airport terminal complex opened on December 10th 1951 with service starting on December 11th 1951 (). With all these giveaways the townsite quickly became known as "Promenade City". During this time period many famous people such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Jackie Robinson*, Billy Graham* & Presidents Eisenhower & Kennedy arrived or visited Forest Park while they were campaigning or visiting nearby Atlanta proper during those years (*Note: These are only some examples - there were many others). In recent years much growth has occurred within downtown Forrestpark with new restaurants and bars opening up along Peachtree Street specifically around Ponce De Leon Avenue just east of Interstate 75 where numerous high-end retailers have set up shop over the past few years including Nordstrom (), Macy's (), Sears () & JCPenney (). development continues apace along I-75W with several large homes being erected recently across from Kress Development which boasts multiple outdoor pools/spas etc

Forrest built his estate on portions of the park, which became one of the most famous addresses in Atlanta. In 1907, Confederate general and Atlantans' favorite son Robert E. Lee visited Forest Park and dedicated a large portion of the park to him. The dedication caused an outcry from some Atlantans who felt thatForest Park should be named after another local hero instead. In 1916, Georgia Governor George Clements renamed the area Forest Park after Savannah's Mayor James Aiken because he felt that Savannah was more important than Athens at that time.
