Fairburn is a city in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 17,568 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Fulton County. The name "Fulton" comes from Englishman William Fulton who discovered the area in 1785 and named it for himself. The land that would become Fairburn was first settled by Native Americans in the early 1700s. In 1812, General James K. Polk sent a military force to drive out the Creek Indians and burned their villages in what is now Fairburn Cemetery. In 1821, Andrew Jackson visited Fairburn while on his Way to Georgia's capital of Atlanta. He impressed upon local farmers the importance of developing cotton plantations near Savannah so that Georgians could buy goods they could not produce themselves. This agricultural boom led to construction of roads and bridges connecting east Cobb County with west Fulton County, which laid the groundwork for what would become Fairburn as a city. The original courthouse building was built between 1827 and 1830 by Colonel John Sprague Goodloe (1801-1870), one of two businessmen who financedAtlanta's founding as a republic in 1795 with $40,000 from Nicholas Biddle (1772-1838). Goodloe donated land for today's downtown square and portions of both sides of Interstate 85/Upper vertebrae Road within present day Fairburn limits; this donation has been cited as one reason why much of downtown remains unrestored since its establishment over 200 years ago In 1907 plans were made to move Atlanta's Municipal Stadium from Dunwoody to nearby Decatur because Dunwoody lacked an adequate stadium plan or facility able to accommodate large football games being played there at that time as well as other events including circuses and pageants scheduled for that year on campus at GA State University site then known as Pemberton Campus [now Samford University]. However after many complaints from residents about traffic congestion caused by overflow crowds at game days etc., City Council passed Resolution No 9802 forbidding any further development on Pemberton Campus until such time as stadium planning could be completed within 1 year or more – effectively preventing any future relocation or expansion northward onto original campus site . On November 15th 1911 voters passed a resolution supporting annexation into Chattanooga due to lackof housing available in town proper during economic hard times although Mayor McFarlane opposed annexation because he thought it would only encourage more people moving into town thereby reducing property values . On February 16th 1912 referendum results showed 54% Yes vote against secession from Chattanooga despite Mayor McFarlane’s objections howeverdue to overwhelming popular sentiment following referenda victories across southeastern Georgia previous year , Cherokee Nation Governor Robert Eason agreed unconditionallyto annex into Chattanooga without benefit of referendum process

Fairburn is a town in Cherokee County, Georgia, United States. The population was 2,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The first permanent white settler in what would become Fairburn was James Goode, who arrived in 1810. He named his land "Innocent Hill" after his home near London, England. By 1816, there were several hundred settlers living here and some began to build trading posts on the Chattahoochee River. The post office called itself "Fayetteville" from 1826 to 1830 because mail sent from this location went through Fayetteville, Tennessee. A courthouse was built here in 1838 and by 1840 had a population of about 100 people. In 1851 General Nathan Bedford Forrest established a military post called Fort Pillow within easy reach of Fairburn for Confederate soldiers during the Mexican-American War The townspeople refused to give up their rights as freeholders and rebelled against Forrest's command Three times they did so but each time he retreated until finally he surrendered at Appomattox Court House on April 918 1865 following the surrender of Robert E Lee and Union General Ulysses S Grant. For many years afterwards Fairburn residents swore not to speak or write English without express permission from their government officials which continued until well into the 21st century
