The Lee Enfield rifle was a very popular rifle during the 1800s, and it is likely that this particular scope was made in Fairburn. One such individual was Jesse Reeves who purchased a 2 1/2 inch Bushnell spotting scope for use with his rifle in 1892. This particular Bushnell spotting scope is still in use today and has been passed down through the generations!

Fairburn is a town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The community was founded by General James Fairburn and his family in 1814 as part of the territory that became Georgia. In 1870, he donated land to make up what is now Fairburn Heights. The first settler in Fairburn was John Ferguson who arrived from North Carolina in 1798 and platted what is now Fairburn Township on December 14th, 1800. He named it after his father-in-law Sir John Ferguson who had settled in this region some years earlier. In 1814 General James Fairburn moved his family from Augusta, Georgia to founding their home here on a tract of land that he purchased from the Creek Nation for $2,500 USD (about $ today). When war broke out with Mexico in 1846 and General Grant captured Mexico City, Texas; most of what remained of GA's slave states joined forces with Mexico including GA which resulted in many African Americans being forced into Mexican service as soldiers or domestics. After American victory over Mexico at Palo Alto two months later many freedmen returned to their homes but about 200 men from GA's First Regiment Tennessee Volunteers volunteered to go west and Battle Creek Campaign against Mexican cavalry leader Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna near Chihuahua on October 25th1847; they were successful and Santa Anna fled north into Canada before Ulysses S Grant could pursue him across the northern border into Texas where he finally surrendered on November 9th following an epic three day battle at Goliad River Bridge just south of Austin TX ( see Forrest Hinton’s “The Adventures of Santa Anna” ). In 1870 General James Fairburn donated land to make up what is now known as Fairburn Heights which became part of Fulton County when it was created out of parts of Screvensville Township (later McIntosh), Decatur Township (later College Park), Gwinnett Township (later Peachtree City) and Rockdale County (later Alpharetta). Most people here trace their ancestry back to pioneer families such as: Pettygrove/Pettyjohns(), Lockhart/Lochards(), Ladd/Lambs/, Rankin/Rankins(), Blythe/Blythes(), Sprague/Spragens(). Today there are also descendants from other cultures including Haitian immigrants who started settling here around 1910; African Americans born within commuting distance such as Alonzo Marshall who worked at Coca Cola Company until 1978; Filipino immigrants starting coming during WWII; Japanese American War era residents – among them Takeo Suzuki – while others haveigrated since then such as Vietnamese refugees following the fall of Saigon in 1975.; There are also numerous local celebrities including actors Jeff Bridges and Charlize Theron whose fathers were natives or residents here during different periods
The town of Fairburn was established in 1834 by a group of farmers who had fled to the area from nearby Athens. The community grew rapidly, and by 1840 there were over 100 people living in Fairburn. In 1845, the Georgia General Assembly passed a bill authorizing the erection of a school in Fairburn. The first public school was built on what is now Main Street, and students from surrounding rural communities soon began to attend. In 1851, the town voted to incorporate as a village, andFairburn became one of the most important towns in local government. During Reconstruction Era (1865-1877), Fairburn played an important role in supporting black Americans during their struggle for civil rights. After the end of Reconstruction, Fairburn experienced rapid growth as a milltown with significant investments made in education and infrastructure. By 1920, however, Fairburn had lost its status as an economic center due to advances in transportation and other means of communication. However, it continues to be an important adjunct community to various businesses throughout central Georgia
