The town was founded in 1827 by a group of white men who purchased 5 square miles (12 km2) of land from the Creek Nation. The first courthouse in Fairburn was built in 1828 on what is now Spring Street. The town grew rapidly due to its location and natural resources, and by 1830 there were 169 citizens living in Fairburn. In 1847,Fairburn became part of the newly formed state of Georgia when it was split off from Alabama. In 1865, during the American Civil War, Confederate General Jubal Early destroyed most of Atlanta and most of the southern states with his cavalry general's raid through central Georgia. This event caused much destruction and loss of life across many towns within Union territory including Fairburn which lost over 50% of its population as a result of war-time refugees flooding into the area seeking safety. Reconstruction followed following America's victory over slavery and this period saw much growth for Fairburn with new construction taking place such as an electricity plant and two hotels/motels – one on Third Street south and one north – both built in what is now CenturyLink Park near downtown Fairburn. Growth continued until World War II when a series of bombings hit nearby targets killed more than 100 people including many local officials responsible for social services such as welfare provision toys for children were also among those killed;[1] these bombings are considered to be one factor leading to rapid decline in population throughout much post-war Atlanta.[2] However, despite some setbacks during this time period such as a lack of housing stock,[3] Fairburn has seen recent resurgence with redevelopment taking place on several key sites including First Avenue South between Main Street and Cumberland Parkway (the original site where Coca Cola began manufacturing products), Crossing Roads shopping center located just east side I-285 off I-285 near North Gwinnett Highway (an important business district before Interstate 285 was constructed), satellite apartments being developed along Interstate 285 east side from CenturyLink Park;[4][5][6] moreover, plans are being made to build another high school which would bring enrollment up to 3,000 students;[7] however due to current economic conditions this may not happen anytime soon given that tuition prices have exploded since 2007

Fairburn is a town in Fayette County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,927 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbus, GA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in Fairburn were John and Mary Ford who arrived in 1795 from Maryland. The Fords built a log cabin on what is now the east side of town. They raised hogs and chickens and did some farming but their biggest crop was tobacco which they processed into cigars and pipe tobacco before shipping to England. In 1812 Henry Capps came to Fairburn with his family from Georgia. He bought two hundred acres (120 hectares) of land grants from the Cherokee Nation near present day Lithonia, Georgia for $2 per acre ($40 per km²). In 1814 Captain James Cook discovered what may have been America's first Exclusive Trade Zone when he sighted an island about 12 miles (19 km) northeast of Fairburn officals' coast on his way back from a circumnavigation of South America. Cook named it "Fairy Island" after Rear-Admiral Sir George Fairburn who had accompanied him during his exploration expeditions in 1801-02 aboard HMS "Discovery". After Cook's death in 1815, control over the area passed through various hands until it was claimed by Spain in 1824 as part of their claim to Florida following its acquisition of Cuba; this resulted in what is now known as Puerto Rico being divided between Spain and the United States territory Guam/Island Province (1865- 1898), Puerto Rico proper (1900-1934) and U.S.-occupied Mayagüez/Trujillo Province ( 1934-1945). When Atlanta became the new capital city following Reconstruction in 1865, many businessmen moved their businesses or established new ones to take advantage of its virgin soil, energy resources and growing population center status. One such businessman was Hosea Moulton Marston who developed a refinery at Paulding Mill operated by American Oil Company that produced gasoline for cars then transported it by pipeline downriver to Valdosta where it was refined into kerosene for use lamps, lanterns etc., then exported by road across country before finally becoming available for sale at retail outlets throughout downtown Atlanta starting around 1902 In 1907 construction began on First Baptist Church which would become one of Athens' most famous symbols during its time as both a civic center serving residents and also home to one of Athens' top music venues – Symphony Hall – hosting performances by major orchestras such as Beethoven's Seventh Symphony Orchestra conducted by Ludwig van Beethoven himself while also accommodating private events like jubilee balls given by King George V to celebrate 100 years since he ascended the British throne In 1932 three African Americans working as waiters at Constitution Hotel were arrested when police found them Lexington Avenue wearing Ku Klux Klan robes while waiting tables

The ordinance led to growing protests against discriminatory practices in Fairburn until it was repealed in 1933 by Mayor Wylie Akins.
