Fairburn is a small town located in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 631 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what would become Fairburn was James McGillivray in 1822. He came from Scotland and founded a trading post on the Chattahoochee River. In 1828, McGillivray married Maria Fenton and moved to Fairburn with her. They had one child, Mary Ann McGillivray. Maria Fenton's family also settled in Fairburn and ran a grocery until around 1865 when they sold their business to Wm. Capps who operated it until 1893 when it went out of business again and was bought by Aiken & Sons Rifles Company Ltd., makers of ammunition that continues today as magazine Manufacturing Co., Incorporated Inc.. In 1868, James McGillivray built his home on present-day McAllister Street; it still stands today and has been used as a community center since then. The original house was destroyed by fire in 1916 but was rebuilt following McMillinvrays death with new design features including an octagon turret roof and Colonial Revival trim elements.. The McIntyre family also lived in Fairburn for some time before moving to Decatur where they started a grocery store there which failed within 3 years due to bad weather patterns. The McIntyre family then moved back to Fairburn where they continued running their grocery store until 1886 when they bought land adjacent to their current building which allowed them to build their present day two-story brick building on what is now Spring Street.. Ira Troup immigrated from Scotland about 1840 and settled near Macon County, Georgia with his wife Theresa (née Gilmore). Ira Troup had two children: Johnnie Troup (born about 1850) who died young at age 24 after contracting tuberculosis while working as an overseer on a cotton plantation, Sarah Jane Troup (born about 1852), who married George Pritchard (Pritchard) about 1880 and later became Mrs George Washington Foreman of the First National Bank of Macon County, Georgia; all three of these families are buried at Mount Zion Cemetery north east of town."

Fairburn is a town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,564 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The first permanent settlers in what is now Fairburn were James and Sarah Goodloe, who arrived in 1795. They named their land "Goodloe's Grove." In 1807, John Hargrave settled on a farm three miles northeast of present-day Fairburn. He built a log cabin and raised corn and potatoes until he sold his land to George Washington Marshall in 1829 for $2,000. In 1836, General Nathan Bedford Forrest founded the Second Georgia Regiment (later the Legion of Confederate Veterans) here from soldiers mustered out of the Union army during the Civil War. A store and tavern were soon established on Main Street by the company officers and their families. The First Methodist Episcopal Church was built in 1840; it still stands today as one of Fairburn's most important landmarks. During World War II, Fairburn played an important role as an airfield for troops fighting against Japan in Burma and India. As Japan began its invasion of Southeast Asia in 1941,Fairburn became known as "The Billy Goat Airfield." After American forces crushed Japan's military campaign into Burma in 1945 and defeated Japanese forces there that same year, much interest developed among Allied nations in using this airfield for atomic bomb testing over Bikini Atoll beginning on March 14th 1945 until August 15th 1945! Although no nuclear tests took place at this airfield due to bad weather conditions prevailing atolls at that time - these tests did take place elsewhere nearby including Enewetak Atoll! Unfortunately during May 1946 when bombs were dropped on Hiroshima after an atomic bombing raid by America which destroyed several buildings there within Hiroshima Village (including our church), extensive damage was caused to our community center which included loss of many windows throughout both levels! During post-war reconstruction efforts some new homes were constructed but most businesses closed except for one grocery store which reopened shortly after reconfiguration following atom bombing raids!! ironically today another grocery store located just outsideFairburn provides essential groceries needed by so many people living here today

The town grew rapidly, and by 1856 it had a population of over 1,000 people. In 1868, Fairburn became the seat of government for the newly created County of Fulton. During the late 19th century and early 20th century, Fairburn experienced significant growth due to its position as an agricultural center and its location on the railroad line connecting Atlanta with Savannah. In 1922,Fairburn was renamed Coolidge after President Calvin Coolidge.
