This law allowed for registration of all firearms including rifles and shotguns with serial numbers and required local shopkeepers to sell only registered pistols or revolvers to individuals over 21 years old at a price equal to that charged for retail sales of such items to adults over 21 years old without a permit from their local police department). The Gun Control Act also prohibited any person from carrying a loaded firearm on their person outside their home or place of business within 500 feet of any school or playground (it extended this radius up to 1/2 mile if it was part of a factory).
