In 1834, Fairburn had a school district with twelve schools and two churches serving its citizens; it had no hospital or doctor until 1870 when Drury Hospital opened in nearby Decatur Township In 1865, gold was discovered at Chattahoochee River near present-day Valdosta and Gainesville while exploration for minerals continued throughout the late 19th century; this led to an increase in mining activity along the Chattahoochee River basin including Fairburn which began receiving shipments of coal from mines at Pittsboro in1868 and Chattanooga shortly thereafter With World War I looming large over America, Atlanta cotton mills needed more labor than could be found within Fulton County so they approached fair Burnett with offers for land south of downtown where new towns could be established as workers were drafted into service In 1921 Fairburn's first block of stores opened when A&P supermarket moved to its current location on Peachtree Street just east of US-441 It wasn't until 1927 that an all electric hospital became available for patients withFairburn becoming one of only a handful cities in America without an operating hospital until 1974 . During the 1930s construction began on what would become Delta Airlines' original headquarters building located across US-441 from today's Walmart Supercenter - making her one of America's "biggest" cities during that time Since then there has been significant growth including several high rise buildings such as One Five Hundred Tower (now known as tower One) completed during the 1990s adjacent to Interstate 85/I-285 interchange now home to officesites such as Marriott MarquisAtlanta Downtown Airport
