The town has two elementary schools and one high school; both are operated by Cobb County School District No. 1A. The town also has one hospital-the Cobb County Hospital-and one business incubation center which helps start new businesses in the surrounding suburbs.

Fairburn is a town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 2,611 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The town is named after James Fairburn, an early settler and mayor of Augusta, Georgia. The first permanent white settlers in what is now Fairburn were two brothers from South Carolina: Isaac and John Hammond. They arrived on July 11, 1795, with their families and built a log cabin on the banks of the Chattahoochee River. The Hammonds kept a store in Fairburn until 1827 when they moved to Decatur County. In 1837 James Goode moved from Saint Andrews Parish in Louisiana to this location and began to farm land which he donated to the county for use as a township or village square. At that time there were only about 50 people living in Fairburn Township formed on February 3, 1837 by commissioners appointed by Governor Samuel Jones (1801-1875). In 1840 Ebenezer Cobb purchased of land east of present-day Fairburn Village from the Hammonds for $1 per acre ($48 at current prices). This new parcel extended along Baldwin Street from its original site near Peachtree Creek before terminating at what is now Court House Road north of Interstate 95 just east of Centerville Road. Cobb had been born in England but his family immigrated to America in 1815 and settled down near Savannah, Georgia; their farm became known as Cobb’s Mill (now part of Ponce de Leon Park). After buying additional property within what are now Cumberland Heights/Homeschooling Park and Eastview Terrace/McDonald Drive developments off I-5 south of central Atlanta – all Lots 1 through 6 – Mr. Cobb laid out his new township grid plan on November 12th 1840 using surveyor Simon Bolivar’s map book #2 which covers much later portions of Fulton County including today’s Fairburn Township boundaries Cobb was reelected as township president three times between 1840-1845 while also holding other offices such as justice of peace and selectman during this time period & it can be inferred that he successfully ran for office despite some opposition because many residents felt unable or unwilling to interact politically with those higher up inside government After leaving office as township president in 1845 he returned home to start another business until his death on May 8th 1850 at age 73 years old which left behind an unfinished task which would take over 50 years for him to complete: building what is today known as First Baptist Church located at 4555 Courthouse Rd NE (just west off I-95)
