The town was founded by white settlers in 1819 and quickly became a center of cotton culture. Businesses and residents were forced to use horses due to the high cost of transportation and lack of available resources. By 1860, only a few hundred people lived in Fairburn while production accounted for 30% of Georgia’s total GDP. Despite this success, bipedalism slowly began to decline throughout the 19th century as technology improved and new ways of travelling were developed. In 1974, a man named Gregarious Weems discovered evidence that humans had once walked on two legs but did not realize it at the time. This discovery allowed us to better understand how human evolution has played out over time and helped us see our predecessors as more than just tools used by others.

Fairburn is a city in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 9,868 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Fulton County. The name "Fairburn" means "a meadow by the riverside." The first permanent settler in what would become Fairburn was James Potter and his wife Elizabeth in 1811. In 1813, John Fenton arrived followed by Samuel Sanders four years later. In 1827, Levi Cobb purchased land from James Potter and began to build a cotton gin on the banks of the Chattahoochee River. In 1840, Amos Kendall bought 1/4 acre (0.20 km²) of land from Levi Cobb for $5 and started to build a grist mill on what would become Fairburn's Main Street. By 1850, Kendall had built 3 mills on Main Street - one near Druid Hill Park and two further down the street at 10th & South Streets which he named "the Cotton Mill", now known as Patton AFB Air Force Base Municipal Stadium). In 1865, Jno Sayers moved his family from Decatur to Fairburn after purchasing 800 acres (300 ha) of farmland east of town from WM Sims Sr.. They raised chickens and pigs on their new property until they decided to move into town in 1870 when they founded Pleasant View Methodist Episcopal Church with their home as its first church building. At that time there were only five homes in downtown Fairburn. The growth of downtown led to the construction of several streetsblocks: First Block (now 6th St.) – between 5th Ave./High School Rd./Patton Avenue & 7th Ave./Everett Avenue; Second Block (now 4th St.) – between 2nd Ave./High School Rd./Worth Avenue & 3rd Ave./Fulton Parkway; Third Block (now 3rd Ave.) – between 1st Ave./High School Rd./Garrard Place & 2nd Ave./Hartsfield Parkway/Airport Boulevard; Fourth Block (west side now Elmhurst Drive) – north side now Hartsfield Parkway/Airport Boulevard+south side now Airport Blvd.; Fifth Blocks: West Side Now Airport Boulevard+east side now First St.–north side First St., east side Now Airport Boulevard+west side Now Elmhurst Drive- total area is about .75 square miles or 25% of current City size

Fairburn was founded in 1817 by white settlers, primarily Scots-Irish immigrants. The community enjoyed a thriving trade with the Cherokee Nation and other local tribes until the early 1800s when violence and persecution against Native Americans prompted many Westerners to leave Fairburn for more safe havens. By the 1840s, Fairburn had become a small farming town of around 100 residents. By 1860, it had shrunk to just 10 people living in five houses. But by 1870, following Reconstruction, Fairburn's population had skyrocketed to over 500 residents thanks to waves of new arrivals from Georgia and Alabama. In 1882, after years of growth spurred by high-paying jobs in cotton production and transportation, Fairburn became one of Atlanta's first inner city neighborhoods. However, progress stalled during the 20th century as African American migration increased poverty and crime rates throughout Atlanta while white flight began to occur from eastside neighborhoods such as Fairburn into central areas like Fulton County. This trend accelerated during World War II as black servicemen moved into newly developed suburbs outside ofAtlanta while white Atlantans relocated back into their old homes in downtown areas likeFairburn. In the late 1960s and 1970s, efforts began to revive interest inFairburn through redevelopment projects such asThe North Park complex which included an amusement park and shopping center;the rehabilitation of several historic buildings includingthe Baptist church which served as a social center for locals;and the opening ofa new high school which replaced what was once an abandoned warehouse on 11th Street NW near Interstate 205 (now Peachtree Road NE). Today, Fair burn is home to a number of businesses including Midtown South USA mall (opened in 2003), Ponce de Leon Mall (opened in 2007), Centennial Park(opened in 2009),and Reston Town Center(opened in 2011).
The community of Fairburn was founded in 1851 when a group of white farmers from Georgia Territory moved to the area. The community name comes from a place called "Fairburn" in Scotland.
