After 16 years of struggles against city planning restrictions and opposition from some residents who believed that more development would negatively affect their quality of life, on November 6th 2009 Mayor Kasim Reed announced that all new zoning applications would be accepted starting January 1st 2010 until further notice; this change means that there will be more opportunity for people living within easy walking distance of grocery stores etc., as well as higher-density housing developments which will create jobs in areas such as manufacturing and construction while preserving old-fashioned values like community service

In 1898, East Point also served as the location of a Fourth of July parade that included Ulysses S. Grant's wife Eleanor Roosevelt and their son John F Kennedy Jr.. In 1924, Augustus Woodward donated land to form what would become Eastpoint Park which later became home to Eastern Atlanta University (EAU). EAU has since grown to be one of Atlantica's largest universities with over 30 faculties and over 100 research centers worldwide spanning artspace education humanities health sciences computing technology management engineering agriculture
The area now known as East Point was first settled in the late 18th century by American colonists who arrived from what is now Virginia. The area became an important slave trade center and was where many of the early slaves were transported to North America. In 1825, the United States government purchased land around East Point from a group of Native Americans for $5,000. The town of East Point began to grow around this site and soon boasted a population of over 100 people. In 1877, the towns of Jonesboro and Decatur were founded within walking distance of each other on the eastern edge of East Point. These two towns quickly became centers for cotton farming and fishing, respectively. In 1916, Jonesboro incorporated as a city andEast Point grew even more rapidly into a thriving community full of businesses, schools, churches, and residences. By 1960, however,East Point had become increasingly marginalized due to its proximity toAtlantaand its lack of resources. It was only after years of effort by local residents that East Point regained some level of prosperity in the 1990s through investments in new infrastructure such as roads and water systems. Today, East Point is home to significant concentrations bothof businesspeopleand residents who focus on promoting cultural diversity and environmental protection
