In 1911 when Atlanta annexed Fulton County adding much of current-day Cobb County to it, East Point served as one of several villages withinAtlanta limits known as "villages grouped together" under Mayor James Meeks' jurisdiction for all purposes except voting rights which went to Cobb County residents only. This arrangement continued until 1955 when voting rights were granted to all residents regardless of village grouping status when Atlanta became an official city under Mayor Maynard Jackson Jr.. -During World War II many men worked at naval stations along both banks ofthe Chattahoochee River serving our country; many homes still stand today evidence of these endeavors Many brick buildings remain standing today around town while many others have been replaced with more recent structures such as apartments/condos etc...
