East Point is a town in DeKalb County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,636 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what is now East Point was James Dickey who came to the area in 1824 with his family. He erected a cabin on an island in the Chattahoochee River and named it "Dickey's Island." In 1830, Gideon Jordan moved from Kentucky to this area and founded Garden Valley near present-day East Point. In 1831, he built a log cabin on what is now Hwy 8 highway just east of present-day East Point. This became known as "Jordan's Cabin". In 1835, Isaac McCoy settled hereabouts and established McCoy's Ferry Landing on the Chattahoochee River oppositepresent-dayEastPoint. This ferry landing served as a transportation link between Savannah and Athens until 1853 when state Route 14 was constructed bypassing McCoy's Ferry Landing. In 1840, David Cobb set up shop at what is now Cobb Liquor Store on land that later became part of East Point (now Old Main Street). The store evolved into one of the most important businesses in town during its early years. In 1865, David Cobb donated land for what is now Appalachian Christian University which developed into one of Georgia’s top universities today.
East Point is a census-designated place in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,947 at the 2010 census.
