East Point is a small town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,849 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The land that makes up East Point was first settled by the Creek Nation in 1788. The first white person to live in the area was Captain James Cook, who explored the Southeast coast of America during his famous voyage of discovery in 1779-1782. He named what he saw Cape Lookout and East Point after himself and his friends, King George III of Great Britain and Lady Anne Hyde of Ireland. In 1804, General Andrew Jackson laid claim to all present-day Georgia as part of the Louisiana Purchase from Spain; when he took office as President in 1824, East Point became part of Jackson's District of Georgia. In 1875, an act were passed Consolidating and Dissolving two Townships into one: Chattahoochee Township (now East Point) with a population over 1,000; and Coweta Township (now West Cobb) with a population under 1,000. At this time both townships had their own post offices and schools - Chattahoochee Township had four while Coweta Township only had one school - but they were combined into one municipality on December 15th 1898 by an act approved by the Georgia General Assembly known as "An Act to consolidate all township elections". On July 16th 1969 voters resident in east point voted 3To1 Against annexing west Cobb township for annexation into east point because then it would have put eastern east point residents out of business & would have created more than doubling its size which we do not need now & will never want again!

In 1802, the town was named for General James Easton on the east bank of Chattahoochee River after his victory over a British military expedition at battle of Kennesaw Mountain. In 1837, East Point saw its first wagon train arrive from Missouri with goods forts built to protect against Indian raids. This event led to increased trade and commerce in the community and helped spur development around it. In 1845, an act of Congress designated what is now eastern Fulton County as part of Georgia Territory; this made East Point one of the two towns within this new county. After being incorporated as a town on February 15, 1856, East Point rapidly grew into one of the most important industrial centers in southern Georgia; its mills produced everything from flour to cotton candy. Throughout much of its history, East Point has been known for its excellent manufacturing plants and innovative products such as lead acid batteries and air-purifiers

The town was named for the point on the East Coast where they had taken refuge. The town grew rapidly and by 1810 it had a population of 10,000 people.
